Media mover actually moves the original, whereas consolidate will create a new media file. Even if they are the same size. Media Mover essentially takes all of the files from that project on the desktop and moves them off. Great for archiving. However, that would not help in the instance of only needing what is in the sequence.

I would imagine there is a TC break, which is dangerous when editing at a lower resolution and re-digitizing later.
In the capture settings (under settings tab in project window) you can set to digitize across timecode breaks. See if you can turn off deck control and capture for an extended period of time. This will help prove it is not the Avid digitize engine causing issues or frame drops.
Are you capturing across firewire onto firewire drives? I have seen that cause an issue as well.

I work for a reseller, and I am Avid certified. However, I think Avid’s deal of $200 per issue is probably the right move. Many times problems go over my head, and I end up escalating them. There is always a new workflow that has big questions.
You can find a local Avid dealer in your area and they typically can help, but getting deep into the software issues of why something is performing the way it is, is best done by Avid frontline. They can write code to fix it.

In my opinion it is a firewire issue. This is error is mentioned included in the Z800 config guide:
The Z800 are very specific about the firewire card that are in them. It is a bus issue. The firewire card has to have a 2k buffer on it. Here are some links to the supported cards:

In the text view of your bin, you can choose the fast menu in the lower left hand corner of the window, and choose headings. I do not believe it will show the filename, but there may be an option to do that. If it is anywhere, it is there.

It may be before the red hits, it should be either blue or yellow. Blue indicates drive speed, yellow indicates processor being overworked. This will help decide which to beef up to make it playback in real-time.

When you boot, do you hear a mac chime.
Sounds like you have more issues than Final Cut pro. You may need to seek the help of a mac service center.
