Hey
Just curious. The software you recommend to convert to quicktime does it make especially good conversions ? I ask because i use a free converter mpeg streamclip https://www.squared5.com/ which seems to do a good job.
Alway curious though so why that converter ?

Hey
THinking about it that flexibility you describe does sound neat. Do I understand it correctly that you would then have just the loose 3.5 discs in pairs and you swap a pair. Is any special docs required or will any pair of identical 3,5″ disc work ?
How do you then backup your set of raid0 disc ? Do you just copy the project on a regular single drive.

Thanks for your reply.
Actually WD states on the webpage describing the disk system that: “User serviceable – Want to upgrade a drive? Simply open the case and replace the existing drive – no screwdriver needed.”
So apparently it is possible to change disks.
If the speed is the same then i will consider the WD, but offcourse i will check the prices first.
Thanks for your input and help.

Great thank you for the quick and thorough reply, I really appreciate it.
I will follow it for sure. Just a follow up. Do you know the western digital disk system ? Apparently it should be able to run raid0 as well, and has the same output as the caldigit disk. I think the WD is a less expensive option, but maybe the caldigit is just a better tool ??

First of all thanks to all of you 3 posters. This forum rocks :0), great that you take the time to help a newbie like me.
I will try the LT codec out as soon as I get hold of the update. If any of you have seen any tutorials on the online/offline way of working I would be very interested.

Hi
I am not sure what you mean but i was downsampling at the same time as I was exporting in h.264.
I have now afterwards actually gotten better H264 in connection with mpeg4 compression.

Hey
Thanks for the clarification about which to choose. Now being a newbie there are still a few issues that confuse me here.
Should I not change the format to prores422 before I start to edit to have the advantage of the format ? One thing I think about is whether or not to capture in prores from the beginning on. The filesize difference of HDV and prores422 seems to be very big, for that reason I am thinking about capturing in HDV1080i and keeping the captures whole tape as a backup/storage raw file.
I might have gotten it all wrong but the quality of the capture isnt greater in prores422 compared to HDV right ?? But prores422 saves in render time, or ? In your words whats the really big advantage/gain by using prores and in what stages of the project ?
Best wishes
