Many of the text animation presets, particularly the ‘Lights and Optical’ category only apply basic text moves… Blurs, color, flashes etc. never get applied, as per the Gallery examples…
I tried every method of preview from OpenGL to Adaptive resolution, no success.
It’s not a preview issue. They don’t render right either because I don’t see any blurs or things like that in the effects controls at all.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try that. But, even if it were set to use OpenGL, it would still render properly, right?
I rendered out a couple of tests, and it was still missing those extra effects.

Francois,
Since no one has replied, I suppose I’ll chime in. Sounds like you are maybe a Pro-Tools user now, am I right?
If that’s true, you know how simple and efficient in many ways Pro Tools is for recording and editing audio, and audio for film/video. But, you probably also know it’s limitations.
I’m a PT user myself, as well as other DAW software such as Steinberg Nuendo.
If we are comparing Logic Pro to Pro Tools LE, then I’d say Logic has PT beat in several ways, if we are just talking raw track counts and even effects playback, and even routing flexibility, and the distributed processing is cool, but costly as it requires additional G5’s. At that point, it makes more sense to go PT HD.
Yes, the Pro Tools MIDI environment leaves something to be desired, and Logic has been a sequencer much longer.
But, with that being said, if you are looking for a serious alternative to Pro Tools LE, without going up the HD systems, I would look at Steinberg NUENDO.
Those are the two that I use professionally, and what you will find in the pro film and video world.
Logic has some great potential, but I don’t think Apple has done enough to give it a real edge, it’s still reaks of Emagic.
When it comes to sequencers, Steinberg Cubase/Nuendo and MOTU Digital Performer has most of the market. Logic trails behind both companies…
When it comes to DAW for film/video, Pro Tools is still at the top, NUENDO and Pyramix are gaining momentum in the film world, Logic is not even a contender in the top teir, maybe more so in local and regional video post, for broadcast or event video. It’s still mostly a sequencer.

[MATTE] Sometimes its hard for professionals to remember that there are those who may not make their living by recording, who can actually derive benefit from using the lower-priced gear if it suits the purpose needed.
very true, good point. I do tend to ‘over-engineer’ some solutions. But, I’ve seen so many try to do things on the cheap, only to spend more cash down the road to fix what should have been done right to begin with. For that reason I tend to tip people towards good solid solutions, that may indeed cost several hundred dollars.
I gave up on consumer grade components years ago, so for anything less than a couple of hundred, which is not much in the pro market, I’m not the guy to ask.

I’ve seen boris render with the wrong field order in other NLEs, could be the same in AVID. Until there is a patch to fix it, try reversing the field order on purpose and see if that does it.
Don’t know for sure, just a guess based on previous experience.

November 15, 2005 at 5:21 am in reply to: How do I get objects to intersect or share same z spaceThank you Anne. Your tip did the trick !! I was doing the 3D container already, but for some reason it was defaulting to 2D composite, instead of 3D model.
Oh well. Thanks. Z-space render made it all disappear, how and why does it difers from 3D model.
My container consisted of two layers, 2D text mapped around a cylinder primitive, that I made invisible, and an extruded EPS loge from Illustrator, which was spinning inside of the the text, which was rotation the other way.
Just curious about when to use z-space and when to use 3D model?

Larry,
Matte is correct, sound cards typically accept line level, some ‘consumer’ sound cards can accept mic level, but the components are typically very cheap.
Be leary of inexpensive solutions, you get what you pay for.
The amplifier between the mic and the sound card is exactly that, a Mic Preamp to be exact. There are stand alone mic pre’s available, but the simplest and most cost effect way to get audio from a mic into the computer is a more professional audio interface or ‘sound card’ with a built in Mic Pre…
Check out these companies…
