Yes and how this is any different from any post house, that uses, something like, say, Dolby monitor, calibrates it, profiles it, builds a LUT and uses it this way? Do you think, that Dolby monitor natively displays Rec-708, P3 or XYZ? Don’t you think Dolby uses the same types of internal LUTs to emulate those color spaces as FSI does?
You’re being silly. Calibrating monitors with third party hardware and software is a standard procedure, done every day by pretty much all post houses. Relying on a manufacturer calibration without regularly scheduled calibration is a sure way to defective product. Nothing against FSI monitors. They are stable, well calibrated and can be recalibrated at the factory, but they are not magic monitors and, as I already said three times, CAN be calibrated by the end users in the field.

I think you’re misunderstanding BM’s system requirements. The whole point of Resolve is that it is a REAL TIME grading system. By saying, that 2.1 is not recommended system, they mean, that as a REAL TIME system 2.1 is not recommended, but it doesn’t mean it, that Resolve will not run. It is obviously does, just not very well. The CPU is not up to par to a modern 4.1 and 5.1 systems, but more importantly, the PCI bus is not fast enough to support 10 bit real time with at least 1/4 res debayer. That is why Resolve introduced an 8 bit mode, so older systems can be used.
On the other note, if interested, I’d be happy to use my 4.1 Mac Pro for GPU testing. I’m in Hollywood.

You absolutely CAN calibrate the FSI monitor, just like any other monitor with number of available hardware options from Klein or Minolta and can create a profile LUT in order to build a viewing or print LUT with something like Cinespace or Light Illusion for use with all software offerings, like DaVinci, Image Systems, Autodesk etc..
People are buying this monitor outside of US and they are able to calibrate it themselves, without need to send it back to US for calibration at the factory. -

I’m using your GTX 285 with great success for over a year and a half and I have great respect for what you do.
Unfortunately, I do have a problem with the claim of 1/2 Good 4k debayer for real time playback on a 2.1 Mac. The debayer speed has nothing to do with your card whatsoever, as I pointed out, that it is done strictly in CPU. That’s it.

As a matter of fact, I guarantee, that it is not even close to the truth. Only latest dual 6 core Westmere computers are capable of such feat. GPU performance has ZERO effect on debayer speed. Debayer is strictly CPU. So, the whole post smells a lot like an ad for macvidcards.

The point was made, that FSI monitor “which cannot be calibrated by the end user” is completely wrong. Any professional monitor, including FSI can be calibrated with the right tools.

Once you provide the drive’s location, Resolve will use that drive. I think, if you had an old drive’s location from previous projects, Resolve will continue looking for it. Just open that project, change the drive location, delete all stills and re-capture them all, so Resolve will stop bugging you for the old drive.

Of coarse it can be calibrated, just like any other type of LCD monitor…
