It was good yo see everyone from BM at the show. Obviously, I’m very happy to see log grading making an appearance in the next version. One question though. There are four controls-low, mid, high and the actual contrast with a pivot. But majority of panels, with the exception of BM panel have only three balls. What is one to do?

Where did you get this idea for remote grading? Way to come up with rube goldberg solution:-)
Here are necessary steps:
1. Conform the project on either Resolve, export the project and send it to the other party.
2. The other party needs to import the project and change the directory, so all files are relinked.
3.For the master station (the colorist’s Resolve) you need to port forward port 15000 to the inside ip address of the master Resolve computer. Or just expose the Resolve computer to DMZ.
4. On the slave Resolve do a “CMD G” and enter the outside ip address of the master Resolve. Leave port 15000 alone.
5. Accept the invite on the Master Resolve.
Done.

March 1, 2012 at 7:14 am in reply to: IR radiated footage – ND without IR filter footageUsually, the biggest issue with IR contamination is the magenta/blue skin hue. So, first you need to balance your shot as good as it can be and then you need to separate your skin from the rest of the image by keying it and using your primary trackballs you can usually bring back the skin color. It’s no fun dealing with IR contamination, but it can be taken care of.

Yeah, it’s annoying, but it happens whenever you start Resolve first and then try to enable EUCon. Unfortunately, the fix is to make sure EUCon is running first, then fire up Resolve and choose NONE as a panel and quit Resolve. Start Resolve again and select MC Color, then quit Resolve again. And once you start Resolve a third time, your MC Color will work. Good luck.

As far as MC Color and EU Con not being reliable, personally, I find EU Con EXTREMELY reliable as well as MC Color having much, much better ergonomics, it is being supported by many more manufacturers (Avid, FilmLight, Autodesk, Assimilate, Nucoda, Red etc) and easily able to use MC Color with any computer, that is connected to the network. I use MC Color with my two computers- PC and Mac with no issues whatsoever. Just try to do that with Wave.
But, hey, if you’re into clunky, plastic, able to only use with single computer, split controls POS, Wave is for you… -

No need to imagine it. This app is called Smoke.
And if Autodesk finally manages to incorporate Lustre into Smoke, then that would be THE finishing app. -
Damn!
I haven’t had a chance to test it, but if it is true, that is impressive!!!
Now it finally makes sense to move Resolve to Windows. No more inferior GPUs, no more restrictive Mac hardware and no more Hackintosh to write Prores.
Happy Days:-) -
Wait, what? Did I miss an announcement? Does Resolve on Windows now writes Prores?
-
Really? Is there an editing, grading or compositing software, that utilizes this ability to write prores on Windows or Linux? Once Resolve, Premiere or RedCine-X or for this matter, ANY useful software, that can write Prores on Windows or LINUX, let me know. But before then, if you want to experiment, nobody’s stopping you.
Just don’t waste everyone’s time with stories of capabilities, that is nowhere near ready to be used in real production environment.
