No, for 580 you’d need an external power supply. I’d recommend 570 with no external PS.

  • I haven’t noticed, that you can only access only one drive, when resolve asks you for the additional locations. In that case, why not create an alias of the folder needed from another drive? Resolve understands aliases…

If that was possible, you wouldn’t have a job:-)

  • You are using V9 right? Unless I’m misunderstanding, are you saying, that when you use XML and Resolve doesn’t find all files it doesn’t ask you, if you’d like to look in other places? Because it should.

Every time I try to use XML prom PP, it just doesn’t work consistently. So, I agree with the previous suggestion of running the project though FCP and exporting XML from there. Works like a charm.

In all my time using Euphonix panel with Resolve on a Mac, I had never experienced sluggish response and I had never had to use fixed IP address. I used both direct connection and connection though the ethernet hub with equal success. Moreover, I successfully used my panel connected through the ethernet hub between multiple Resolves on multiple computers on multiple platforms, without the need to disconnect and reconnect. I just don’t understand this “sky is falling” attitude toward MC Color. It’s great product, which never gave me any trouble.
Said that, I just sold mine in order to replace it with the Element. But it had nothing to do with any kind of dissatisfaction with MC Color. Frankly, if MC Color could do the bi-directional control, like Element, I would gladly continued to use MC Color…

  • Yep, that’s the way it works. You must push play to see it, but not every time:-) Pretty annoying…

Resolve does one thing, does it quite well and does it VERY fast. It is the closest thing to a bulletproof software, that exists today. The good reason for that, Resolve is a closed island, not burdened by additional capabilities, using third party plugins or third party hardware. That usually invites more incompatibility issues. Would I like the OFX infrastructure on Resolve? Sure. Would I do it in exchange for slower operation and more software crashes? Nope…
BM done an incredible amount of work improving rountripping to FCP. It is too just about as easy and as bulletproof as it gets. Why use inferior tools instead of using the ones design for a specific purpose. NUKE and AE for compositing, FCP, AVID and PP for editing, Resolve for grading. Or if you insist on one app for all, do try new Smoke 2013. It’s not too bad. You may like it…

Somehow, I very much doubt, that you even seen the way Smoke operates. It is a free 30 day download. You should play with it and then you should opine about it’s operation.
On the other point, just being able to cut, dissolve , slip and slide doesn’t make an editor. Editing is VERY complicated process and not an easy thing to do. Just ask Apple:-)

  • Well, technically there is no reason why one can’t install 580 or 680. The reason why those cards are more difficult to install in comparison to 570 is the power envelope of Mac pro, that isn’t enough for those cards. But, if an external power supply is used to power those cards, then they will run just fine with stock MacPro.
