I know, that my post is kinda pointless, as BM pretty much ignores majority of suggestions from users, like panels mapping, making cache useful, implementation of LOG grading etc, nevertheless…
I much prefer the way FilmMaster and Baselight interface work. Both do not have video image in the GUI. I’d like for Resolve to do the same. The big gaping hole left by removing video image could be replaced by, say, scopes? Then there is no need for two display GUI and the problem with client sometimes preferring the GUI video is solved.
All windows could be created and manipulated only on the main monitor. Also, I’d like to be able to change the main display magnification, if need, without using the zoom controls.
And while we’re at it. Lately it feels, that the Resolve updates are issued on an almost weekly bases? Can we slow down a bit and stop issuing updates with only “general performance and stability improvements”? I don’t take updates lightly and it takes time to run the new version through it’s paces, before I’m satisfied with the new build. I need to run every new build with one of my remote clients in order to be sure, that that part is not broken. Also, some remote grading clients decide to update their Resolve without consulting me and some do ask, before updating. So, now I must keep number of partitions with different Resolve versions, so I have it just in case the client using a different version. I know, it’s weird to ask for LESS updates, but sometimes too much is just that- too much. Personally, I find this crazy pace of updates is a bit of a burden. -
Glad to hear it Peter, that’s on the short list of things to fix.
The reason why I chose the public route, is to spare the grief and embarrassment to any other user, contemplating remote grading work with Red material. Frankly, I was a bit put off, that such a fundamental function of remote grading either was overlooked in QC for two years or not made publicly known. Either explanation is pretty poor, especially when people build their business on a promise, that software functions as specified. I realize, that I may sound a bit unreasonable, but it takes a long time to built a solid professional reputation and it takes just a moment to lose it.

No, that’s not what I meant. Import XML and Resolve will ask you where to look. If resolve finds all needed files in the first folder, you’re done. Otherwise, Resolve will ask you again, if you want to stop or if you’d like to continue to look in another folder, which can be on another drive. Select yes and select another drive and folder there and Resolve will continue doing that, until everything had been found.

Yeah, this is not a bug. Peter had mentioned it at some point at the past. Metadata adjustment happens before the grade, so undo doesn’t affect it. He promised, that at some point it will get addressed.

No Mike. You’re not running those computers, your company does. If something happens to those computers you will not be paying for the repair from your own packet. It’s not a good idea exceeding computer power envelope and 580 is outside of it. I have yet to see a single user, that is running the 580 inside the tower. Everyone here (much more, than 5 users) only uses 570 for that task, successfully. But, hey, if you’re fine with taking the risk of damaging your own computer, go ahead. I’m not willing to take that chance with my computer and I would strongly advise against doing it, as it may harm the computer, like here https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/277/22982.
You may feel, that I have no better things to do, but to constantly squabble with you, but I feel this opinion is ill advised, that shouldn’t be followed. -
The statement above is based on the information provided by David Pirinelli from MacVidCards, who knows a thing or two about GPUs and their power requirements. If that is not enough, in addition to GT 120 I use GTX 570 and it is just barely works. Once in a while, when 570 is pushed extra hard, the power for the extra GPU exceeds the power envelop of a Mac tower and the system just shuts down. I would strongly advise against using GTX 580 without an additional external power supply.

For some reason BM keeps old versions of Resolve under “Drivers” software. It’s been this way forever. Can’t you guys at some point take care of it?

It seems I’m missing something. I just tested importing XML and Resolve allows you to import as many times as you like from as many drives as you like too….

Just checked the possibility of using additional folders on other drives with aliases and, unfortunately, Resolve doesn’t see them.
