  • I’ve use the wire removal tool for stuff like this before. You can also try creating a patch/cover in PhotoShop and then tracking that to the video.

There seems to be a plenty of clean contrast between the hand and the shirt. To cover any dirty patchwork occurring when the hand travels over the mic, you could add a 2nd video layer and luma-key the dark out so you have a clean hand floating over the patchwork job.

I just installed Media100 Suite 2.1.2 and it updated my RED to v5.1.5.607.

When selecting from the software update list for RED, it’d be helpful if Media100 was listed with the appropriate version.

Thanks. When I tried Suite2.1.2, it didn’t like our LHi’s 9.1 drivers so I reverted to an earlier version. Today, I tried the 10.3.2 driver with Suite2.1.2 and it seems to work fine so far. The Media100 release notes should mention something about it.

I frequently use composition clips. Sometimes I use them like a audio-bus clip to apply FX across all the video clips. I use them in the timeline and for titles too.

FYI if you edit a clip, you’ll be sent to RED from the timeline or bin and you can apply whatever FX you like, just as you would with a composition clip.

That would be great. There are a lot of great new BorisFX tools that I’d like to have for Media100/RED5. Any time frame on the availability?

I’d be happier to see BorisFX giving Media100/RED more support. There’s some nice BCC plugins like Beat Reactor, Flicker Fixer, etc. that are available from Boris for other NLEs but not their own.

    We are running 10.7.4 here.

When the dreaded “media 100 suite is busy” appears (not a day goes by without seeing it) after exiting Boris & returning to Media100, you can still get around before doing a force-quit.

Under the “media 100 suite is busy” condition, to jump from one Media100 window to the next, you can click the desktop first then the window you want. If the BIN is active but I want the PROGRAM window, click the desktop then the PROGRAM window.

Be aware that some keyboard shortcuts don’t work under the “media 100 suite is busy” condition.

I’ve had Media100 complain that drives are too slow when trying to digitize footage. Media100 would stop & report the error. Drives all checked out ok. I finally noticed that the drive was simply out of space. I deleted what wasn’t needed anymore and was back to digitizing again. The error message caused some amount of confusion.

I have auto-save set but get into the habit of doing a manual save after rendering something finishes. I’ve been burned too often by crashes and unsaved renders.

  • Good to know. Just tried it and it works. Thanks.

  • Media100 Feature Request:
Select In Range ALL Tracks – an expansion of Select In Range In Track.

  • I’d like to see some bug fixes. I still get that hang-up frequently when exiting RED5 back to M100. I get random glitching in title/comp/filter rendering. It will go away if I unrender & render a 2nd or 3rd time. Is OSX 10.7.4 approved?

Featurewise, BorisFX rolls out a lot of new filters for RED/Continuum but not all are available for Media100 users. I’d really find beat reactor useful.

For Media100, clip nesting/grouping would be nice. You can drag a group of clips to the bin & back but they’re still individual. I used the nesting/grouping a lot in MovieShop5 on my old MacroSystems DraCo. I could drag an entire timeline into another and use in as an single clip. In Media100, I need to export & import files to achieve the same.

I hadn’t really used Media100 audio bus tracks before watching one of Floh’s tutorials. They’re useful. Something similar for video tracks could be useful too.

Importing movies with the option to ignore an embedded alpha or the choice to import only the video or audio of the movie file.

A view option for tabbed windows for bins, like tabs for pages in a web-browser. It would clean up some of my clutter.

Import from video DVD option. We sometimes get spots from clients on DVD that need tagged or changed. I usually the free MacX DVD ripper but it’d be nice just to have a direct import option for Media100.

Better firewire device control. We have some sony HDV decks that we still use but the device control isn’t accurate or robust enough for batch digitizing. It always has difficulty pinpointing the timecode. A fuzzier search might work. Rather than find the EXACT frame, find & accept something that is close enough & before the point you’re looking for, acquire the slightly larger clip and just adjust the in/out points once the clip is in the system.

Snapshot/freeze frame. Sometimes I just want to hold a frame for several seconds. I could export the frame and re-import but how about a tool that makes it more automatic. Select the frame, keyboard short-cut the tool, and viola, a new still clip is at your disposal.

There are probably other things I’d like but time to get back to work.
