Make sure your plug-ins are installed to their respected directory e.g for CS3 they will be located in Program files>Adobe>After Effects CS3>Plug-ins. Move them to this directory then restart after effects or just click refresh in the preset panel and your problem is solved. Another way is to just reinstall your redgiant software package and it should automatically detect the CS3 plug-in directory!

Ive run into this problem myself. I also have 4 gig ram and From my understanding After Effects can only register 2GB of ram unless you turn on multiprocessor support under preferences! (this could be incorrect,if so some please tell me). Windows XP [if 32bit] will only recognize 3gb of ram. How i solved this was setting my maximum memory usage to 60% and ram cache to 50%. Under media cache preferences i delete the cahce folder on a regular basis. If you allocate to much ram memory after effects will freze because it doesnt know how to handle it.Again with multiple core processors as with the ram issue your OS might have trouble acknowledging each core individually and try recognizing them as one collective unit thus freexing your system! and causing relative programs to promt memory errors,You might have to manually configure your system to recognize all cores! Its best if you just tweak your seetings until the msg stops being prompted and you are happy with the relative rendering time for you workflow! As i said this is my opinion based on my experiences and i could be wrong!

Another way is to just drag around the panels manually and postion them where you see fit. This can be done by click & holding the panels in the top left of the tab bar while you drag. Same as any of the Adobe programs.

If that is the case then the codecs are installed. but you could be having trouble with your audio device drivers installed on your computer. To check see if all these devices are working properly. Just go to control panel>sound & audio devices and just do a troubleshoot if there is a problem!

What is the condition of the quality of you source footage? This is very important for the final look of your project! If it is bad then then you final render will be worse. i would suggest that you do some research on codecs and system requirements for video rendition. If you have low ram this will affect your render. And word of advice never believe your preview window(unless you preview on an external monitor) The preview monitor has 4 settings Draft(terrible), preview(bad), good(good) & best(better). But these previews mean nothing, they are merely used for reference for your workflow. Your final render ie.compression dtermines your end result!

You may have collapsed their respective windows by accident. To re-open them simply click view>transitions or view>video fx

Within the explorer window when you have the relevant file selected, Does it say under the audio description “Audio Stream attributes cannot be determined?
if this is the case there are many variable which could be your problem.

1: When capturing make sure you that you are compressing the audio. and that you have the relevant codec installed.Uncompressed, can cause what is known as a buffer overflow without the applicapable ram.
If the audio is compressed, do an analysis of the audio stream to determine the compression of the source! then install the codec. You can probably find it by googling it!

2: Check your plug-ins, The relevant one might be missing or corrupt, If this is the case re-install the program.

3: Make sure that your version of vegas is “legit” and that it isnt some bootleg version of the pre-release beta. These are riddled with bugs and to the untrained eye looks legit but allot of the plug-ins and link (.dll) files are missing!

Another thing some cameras require their own software to capture all the data required. When this is the case video editing software that support capture can run into this problem.
