    Hi Guys,

I’m new to AE so please bear with me. I have seen this error message a few times and don’t know quite how to deal with it.

“Unable to allocate space for 720×540 image buffer. You maybe experiencing fragmentation. In the memory/cache preferences, dialog box, try decreasing the maximum RAM cache size value an dselect the enable disk cache option, increasing maximum memory usuage or both”.

I’m using CS3. Under the Memory/Cache Page I have it set as:

    Maximum memory used: 60% = 1.2 GB
Maximum RAM caches size: 60% = 1.2 GB

    Enable Disk Cached IS CHECKED.
    Maximum disk cache size: 2000MB

Prevent DLL address space fragmentation IS NOT CHECKED.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.

Ive run into this problem myself. I also have 4 gig ram and From my understanding After Effects can only register 2GB of ram unless you turn on multiprocessor support under preferences! (this could be incorrect,if so some please tell me). Windows XP [if 32bit] will only recognize 3gb of ram. How i solved this was setting my maximum memory usage to 60% and ram cache to 50%. Under media cache preferences i delete the cahce folder on a regular basis. If you allocate to much ram memory after effects will freze because it doesnt know how to handle it.Again with multiple core processors as with the ram issue your OS might have trouble acknowledging each core individually and try recognizing them as one collective unit thus freexing your system! and causing relative programs to promt memory errors,You might have to manually configure your system to recognize all cores! Its best if you just tweak your seetings until the msg stops being prompted and you are happy with the relative rendering time for you workflow! As i said this is my opinion based on my experiences and i could be wrong!
