Yes. I sent an email to Aja and cc’d my reseller about colour shifts in FCP 5 with the Kona 2 cards when using HD and they have not responded to me. Tomorrow it will have been one week. Two days ago I sent the email again and still have no response. My reseller is very good and knows I have a legitimate concern, so he is going to follow up on my behalf.

We are posting a project for a client that originates on film and has been transferred at 23.98 to HDcam. The lab pulled 29.97 offline tapes for the initial editing and it is up to our facility to create the masters for the broadcaster at 59.94, 1080i.

We have done this with commercials many times but never for a long-form series. We are using Final Cut 5 and a Kona 2 and wondering if there is some way to do this on the fly without rendering out a new sequence. We are using Cinema tools, of course to convert the 29.97 SD offlines to 23.98 onlines. The trick is adding pulldown on the fly and mastering at 59.94.

Does someone have a solution to this.

    Thanks,

  • Can anyone tell me why only the 601 color space seems to look right with HD footage. We have worked with HD footage in Final Cut, using 709 color space for a year, monitoring on Ecinema EDP 121 units. We view our images in 709 color space and if we select 601 color space, there is a slight change in the color. In the Kona control, selecting anything but 601 (even when working with HD footage) with 2.2gamma looks overly contrasted (crushed blacks) and very odd color. I question whether they have actually figured out color space accurately, given all the gamma display problems with these cards to date.

Back to my Decklink HD card again, just to be safe.
