Thanks John, If the quality isn’t impeded noticeably i’ll stick with 8 bit. Thank you again.

Thanks Charles, that info is valuable – first hand experience is hard to beat.
Might have to bite the bullet and reinstall windows, though I would desperately prefer not too.

Hi Aidan,
there are two ways to move all the clips from the left to fill the gap.
1) press – control A, which will select everything in your timeline at once, you can then drag it to the right as you wish.
2) use – auto ripple (9th icon from the right up the top of the page) it looks like this https://i1.creativecow.net/u/124788/ripple.jpg
choose the second option down and it should move everything at once.good luck

But the recommended page file minium is 18gig on my system? I have already reinstalled vegas, my windows system is running perfectly in all other areas and applications, just Vegas seems to be the trouble maker. If it was a page file issue I would hope that me slowly increasing it – 18 – 25 -35 – 45 – 55 – 65 – 100 gig would have resolved it.
Yesterday I had one project render out when a computer tech was here, today its back to the same issue.
really dissapointed in how much of an issue this has become.

Okay i’ll drop it back to 36 gig which is 3 x RAM. Im not running Norton either, ESET NOD 32 as anti virus.
My bosses computer is outdated, slow and only 32bit, yet his system handles Vegas 10 with ease, zero issues when rendering and uses all the same effects, transitions and file formats.
I have recently changed the graphics card back to an older model as I suspected that this may have been influencing the rendering process too. Unfortunately the issue persists.
what do I do?

Hi Stephen,
I have allocated 100 gig to page file, the default or susgested amount is 18gig.

September 21, 2010 at 8:49 am in reply to: Final Cut Not recognising HDV cam, cant export to tapethanks for your response john, i am still battling away. its turns out that when i attempted to print to tape/video in dv the aspect ratio is warped/stretched, so i have reverted to converting each individual clip into ‘dv stream’ through FCP and importing it into Vegas, then printing to tape from there.
im not sure whether i could download HDV footage into FCP with my FX1 and 4 to 9 pin firewire? there have been too many issues with HDV and i will attempt to avoid it. thanks for the info on how HDV used and created, learn something new everyday.
looks like i will push through the pain on this project and hopefully have a better system next time…

September 20, 2010 at 12:29 am in reply to: Final Cut Not recognising HDV cam, cant export to tapeHi Shane, thanks for the response, I certainly appreciate that the clips would need to be rendered out to HDV and was surprised when the youtube tut didnt mention this was needed, this is certainly the way vegas/premier do it.
however, i am still stuck, i have had success with the clips being printed to tape as ‘DV’ just not HDV.
I have tried to render out a test clip in HDV, then put it into a HDV sequence, then have my Sony FX1 set to HDV with a HDV tape. But the clip is not accepted?? the camera doesnt recognise the print to video attempt. i have fiddled with the settings and sometimes i get the camera recording a blue screen.
i know it’s strange to want to transcode xdcam footage to tape but that is what i have been asked to do, and i cant seem to find a solid step by step tut on the net.
any ideas?
or the another option which would be helpful is, does FCP have a format it renders/transcodes to which is PC-Vegas/Premier friendly? then i can do all the printing to tape in those programs.

ahhh, thats is what has happened. i havent manually set the deinterlace. i had saved a project setting for my fx1, being 1080i, blend fields and then rendered out to 720p. however it seems the interlace option has reset itself to ‘none’.
thanks again john!!

….also, i have noticed the interlace is evident in low light situations on renders at 720p, however the clips with good light show no interlace. then if i render in 1080i the low light clips dont have evident interlacing but the clips with good light do…what to do?
