I’d say upgrade one of your GT120s… Quadro 4000 is a safe bet.

HDRx stuff or just plain old 5k?

Contact their sales teams (see FilmLight and Image Systems’ sites) and they can issue them.
I think both companies only release a certain number of demos at a time, so you might not always be able to demo straight away.

MacBook Air would be sweet for DSLR Dailies if there was say a “lighter gui” on-set version.
I love my 11″ MBA and it would be nice to be able to at least play around on it as a system refresher, as you can do with the 30-day Nucoda and Baselight trials.

Personally I wouldn’t say it’s about nodes or layers being superior.
Grade with what you like… Every system has pros and cons and believe me even my beloved Nucoda has cons. Software grading is still in a fairly primitive stage and you really have to look at what you get for money if you’re investing in kit.
They all do very similar things, sure in my opinion Film Master has more tools than Resolve, but Baselight has more customisable tools. It’s not even a case of ‘horses for courses’.
Personally I prefer layers like in Photoshop, as opposed to Nodes, but to be quite honest, I’ll grade with whatever I’m asked to as they’ll all do the job perfectly well enough.
Not many colourists would turn down grading a huge Hollywood feature just because Deluxe or Company 3 tell you that the client booked one of their Resolves…

Adam Inglis doesn’t use panels (IMDb him).
I don’t think nodes or layers make a difference. I grade with Film Master, Baselight and DaVinci (all with panels) and I just work in different ways with all of them. You have to think in a different way and that is all 🙂

I believe someone on here wrote an article about the “Speed <> Cost <> Quality” triangle that applies nicely to this scenario.
Doesn’t help you I know, but it’s a good read for future self-reference!

AKA Design in the UK.
They’ve made some incredible post furniture, such as Molinare’s finishing cinema. I’ve had a fine desk commissioned by them for Film Master that looks stunning!

I’m coming from a Nucoda background but I’d imagine the Avid side of things is somewhat the same.
Relinking in Avid traditionally relies on Tape Name and Timecode, or more recently (with AMA) on Source ID and Timecode. Try giving the original media (before any transcode/consolidation) tape names if none exist. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s an issue along those sorts or lines…
Or, even better, ask Dan Moran as he is the king of this stuff! Actually, it would be great if Dan could clarify that on here?
