I have been using QT 7.0.4 without any problems on my G5 dual since it was released. The only problem is the lag time caused by the mpeg2 component loading when fcp is started.

As of last night the 7.0.4 is still available. I updated my G4 yesterday and it was included with the updates.

And what is that “benefit” that the viewer will appreciate.

Can describe what you mean by “much better?” Is it worth the extra hardware that is required to output 4:2:2?

Interesting. I still don’t see how you can invent/inject color information into 4:1:1 source video. Is it that the component out contains more information than that which ends up on the internal miniDV tape, or what?

Where does the DV Deck get the tape, from the DVX100? Are you expecting to start with 4:1:1 and upgrade it to 4:2:2?

How are you capturing the dv footage through SDI?

I see the Canon XL H1 has HD-SDI. Anyone here have experience with capturing uncompressed footage directly to computer?

Footage to tape is compressed (DV inherent 5:1) but video camera out, directly to computer, is uncompressed (1:1)? This can’t be what you’re saying.

Mpeg2 is an option. It is good to remember that FCP and Compressor rely on Quicktime so you must be sure that it is Quicktime mpeg2 capable. This requires a component that generally is installed with FCP. You can also purchase it separately from Apple.

I believe it is just that easy. Print to tape using a firewire device, like your camera, and will have 29.97.
