  • There’s features in it that the Ultrascope doesn’t have (yet). Since the interface is so flexible, it’s a great feature to be able to enlarge the waveforms in any manner you want to see the detail in the black/whites/etc. I work with a ton of multicamera clips right now, and little details like that are great for matching cameras up. The last project I was working on had 4 cameras shooting in multiple lighting conditions and having a large parade on a WVR helped a lot. All I can say is try it out if you have the chance. There’s a free trial.

  • That’s rad. Thanks for the heads up. I’d love to be able to convince the studio I’m at right now to try a couple of them out. We just upgraded to an 80TB XSAN so I think they have the cash lying around somewhere. Haha.

“If not I’ll probably get a BMD scope and put it into the 2008 Mac.”

You should check out a trial of Scopebox if you have a nice Mac to spare. It doesn’t have alarms or logs, but it has 1:1 sampling and you can resize/reposition any of the meters and scopes wherever you want. Here’s an extreme example…

Full screen waveform on my old Macbook. Haha. Hopefully BMD will include some of the Scopebox features in a future release.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I was asking Walter.

  • I’m curious on how the internal scopes affect performance on a single GPU rig. With Color, I typically see a significant increase in playback perfomance when they’re disabled(especially 3D color space). Since Walter said he doesn’t use external scopes, I can see this as being a potential problem.

What kind of footage are you working with? Are you using the soft scopes or outboard scopes?

“grading is more of a hobby for me now that i’m semi retired in south africa.”

I remembered the second quote from a post a couple months back. You seem very passionate for someone who views this as only a hobby.

    “Why all this rage?”

Maybe he has something against DaVinci.

I can think of a dozen situations just in the past couple months where having audio in Color would have saved me some time.

“I am waiting to upgrade my own tower, presently set up running Apple Color, until I am sure that the Nvidia cards render properly running either software.”

Re-read my earlier post and saw that my iPhone didn’t copy over the entire message. Just to clarify, the R3D rendering was in reference to Color and FCP on my 2008 tower. I haven’t had any issues or bugs yet so everything seems to be running well with the 2 NVIDIA cards.

I don’t have a beta version of Resolve. I was just running FCP and Color with the two cards to see if there’s any bugs. Everything is up to date for Resolve specs(besides it being a 2008) so I figure if Color and FCP work without any problems now, it should work fine when I install Resolve.

I’ll still be using Color because I do a lot of remote work with FCP centric clients so it’s a fairly important test for me.
