I had not seen a sample of that problem, nor realized there was more than one imaging bug with the F55 at the moment.
What was described to me was exactly as I stated “edge enhancement run amok” which created a light/dark outline. This info came directly from someone in an official capacity at Sony.
From our conversation, it sounded to me like it was either corrected in a firmware update, or was about to be. Essentially the firmware just changed a setting of the camera that was related to edge enhancement from default of “ON” to “OFF”. I don’t recall exactly which setting it was.
I’m yet to play with a F55 outside the DMPC. Nate if you’re game, and want to bring your F55 by the shop next week we can try to duplicate the “ghosting” issue and perhaps find a setting fix. I’d also be interested to shoot a little XAVC test if that option has already been enabled.

Shutter speed is set to an unsafe speed to your discontinuous lighting source (probably fluorescents).
Try shooting in daylight, or under safe lights Tungsten/LED and your problem will disappear.
This phenomenon is not exclusive to the FS100, and can be seen on most cameras with a decent VF system. And is possibly the best case against the folks out there who like to say things like “we don’t need light with our super cool new fangled camera”. -Ha!

I would recommend calling Blacklist. They design custom DIT solutions/software/workflow. I think they have around 8-10 DITs and carts out on a number of different shows. I know they all have the capacity to do real-time/near real time grading, transcodes and data back-up on set.

The answer to your question is…
With the HVX you can record sound at ANY of the variable frame rates. However, you will ONLY hear the sound played back when you playback the captured video at THE SAME variable rate. For example, if you shoot at 32fps, you will not hear the sound when you play back at any frame rate other than 32fps. I tested this last week during our shoot. We were all a little concerned about this because the manual isn’t particularly clear about that feature.
