Andreas- well I finally managed to put this all together. Thank you for the advice. The Gaussian blur worked fine. Again it seems like quite the crazy work around, particularly since adding backgrounds to titles was so easily achieved in FCP7. But I am glad I can finally use something. Now I will do a lot of copying and pasting. Thanks again for your help. Please let me know if you hear of fcpx having this capability in future upgrades.

I am now stuck at ‘add the Blur’- where does that come from.
And its so interesting that there is Feather for the drop shadow, but not the shape?? Thanks again!
I see Blur as an effect. Which should I apply? How do I have it effect the whole shape and not just one side?Ilene

Thanks for your time here Andreas. When you say ‘Add a shape’- I have added a solid custom black, lowered the opacity and cropped it. I’d simply like to blur the edges.
I tried the same with ‘shapes’- made it eliptical and lowered the opacity- still not what I am shooting for.
I cannot understand how this simple adjustment is not in FCPX.
I will try your download another day. But thanks again for your help.Ilene

To create backgrounds behind subtitles- being able to feather the solid background. I can easily adjust opacity- but I want to sften the edges. I’d like to be able to do this in fcpx without having to use motion.
How could there not be a simple way to do this? In fcp7 it was so simple. I’d rather not have to use a mask, etc. Does a feather tool exist now in x? Thanks for your attention.Ilene

Shane- I am having a problem connecting thru firewire using my Sony HD-1000 having
shot in HD I have set all capture presets to HD and the camera is in HD. I have tried 2 computers with
FCP and used 2 different firewires and it is still not being seen. Help!Ilene

I realize you wrote this comment over a year ago. I have been shooting with a 100b and won’t have access to it soon. I am now considering purchasing a used dvx-100 from a friend for $1400. A. do you think I will miss any features of the 100b B. do you think this is a fair price. He is a good friend who cares well for his equipment. Just wondering the ballpark- I don’t see many 100s for sale- mostly 100b.For another 500 I will purchase his Bogen tripod and on camera light and bag. Your input is welcome.
