That’s not an effect on a font, it’s hand-drawn lettering.

If you want the distressing at the edges, pre-comp the text, set it as the Reverse Alpha for a layer of rather tight Fractal Noise. Pre-comp.

Copy your original text layer and paste it into a new comp. Now lay the fractal noise on top and set it to Alpha Matte the text

I’d set all my text in all of it’s positions and rotations and then parent it all to a 3D null. Then I’d animate the Y Rotation of the null to swing the text into the center of the screen.

It’s up to you if you want to write lines that are far too long to be read on screen á la the RSS Visualizer.

Film some paint splatters (or buy some) and overlay them onto your footage.

There should be a video section on this site.

So many posts start, “I saw a video a while back…” A video section would put an end to the questions– Was it a tutorial? No wait, maybe the Lindebooms think it’s a podcast.
Eff it. I’ll just post something in the forums.

I think the word is “complex”.

If the camera doesn’t move, it’s a simple as right-clicking on the top-most of the two layers and setting it to Overlay or Multiply using the Blending Modes >.

Anytime anyone says to you, “After Effects will do that…” repeat to yourself “I can do that in After Effects.” AE alone couldn’t make it out of the box it comes in; YOU are the magic.

Any Inside or Outside masks that were based on replaced footage?

  • Depending on how much you need the contents of the precomps for spacial organization, you can drop your comp window to One View and switch to Wireframe.

What sounds like the most help would be pre-rendering all of those precomps into footage.

I’m not sure that this is possible in AE. My best guess would be to use Trapcode Particular and build a floor and four walls. But I don’t think TP gives you 4 walls.

Pretty sure that’s a plugin that you just slap on there.

It definitely doesn’t look like a creative, qualified and talented artist hand-animated that 10-frame sequence using a computer and the combined knowledge of the animation techniques used for over a century.
