I’m trying to take a custom particle and have them bounce around in cube. I’ve tried Trapcode Particular but I’m unable to figure out how to keep the particles contained. They just spill out all over the wall and floor layers.

Is there another method I could try? I haven’t been able to figure out something successful in particle playground either.
    Thanks for any help.

I’m not sure that this is possible in AE. My best guess would be to use Trapcode Particular and build a floor and four walls. But I don’t think TP gives you 4 walls.

Even though it’s 2D, I think you might be able to fake it with particle playground and a custom particle and a mask.

If you draw a closed mask the shape you cube and set that as the Wall>Boundary>Mask 1.

Then choose you custom particle as, Layer Map>Use player

Then your custom particles will bounce around inside that rectangular mask.

Now is you animate the mask shape over time to match the outline of the cube (and maybe alittle visual masking on top of it all, depending on if sides are showing or overhanging), you can make it look like the particles are contained inside the cube. They won’t be bouncing exactly right, but if there are enough particles the illusion might hold.

Thanks for your help. I wound up just key framing some elements a few times over in a 3D cube. If anyone ever figures this out, I think it could make for a great effect.

I just tried to do it with 4 walls in a precomp and it failed. Just letting you know so that you don’t waste your time and to help give you ideas for new attempts.
