Thanks for the kind words. A proper encoding platform like Episode could batch-convert them, at least. Avid and most NLEs will only do one at a time. Good luck and let me know if I or anyone on my side can assist as you sort this out.

there are some restrictions/protocols when copying to disc..

you can do one of the following:

-to archive them as data (won’t play on the deck, will reside in a generic folder we use for non-xdcam files), copy them to the User Data folder of the disc.

-to archive them as XDCAM files that will play, generate thumbnails etc, you have to put them into an XDCAM format. you can use FCP or Avid to render/wrap to XDCAM if you need to. For FCP you need either Content Browser (FCP 7 or FCP X) or XDCAM Transfer (FCP 7) to re-wrap to .mxf.

it sounds like option 2 is what you need. from FCP 7 use the ‘Export–>Sony Content Browser’ or ‘Export–>Sony XDCAM’ menu items added by the above plugins. from FXP X you have to select Share–>Master File and make sure the ‘open with’ preferences are set to ‘Content Browser Exporter’. from Avid or Vegas or Premiere CS5/6 you can export directly without plugins. bottom line is a re-render to an XDCAM codec if you want playable video.

note that you also need the PC Remote/FAM driver to properly manage XDCAM discs. https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads.

I looked at your files. You are not using the whole ProAV folder. You need to use the whole ProAV folder with the XMLs and other files. Otherwise Transfer does not know how to combine the raw files in ProAV/CLPR/[Clip Name] and just lists the one standalone file it can make sense of in that directory (that’s why your file shows up with the ‘S’ suffix at the end..it’s a proxy). See below. The clip folder you sent me is from CLPR.

yes, make sure all necessary drivers are installed (UDF driver for your 200 and the FAM or VFAM driver for the optical machine) and use Browser to drag clips from the 200 to the the XDCAM disc. The basic rules on mixing formats apply:

With MIXED RECORDING disabled = disc must be one format/standard/frame rate

With MIXED RECORDING enabled = you can mix SD/HD, video bit rates and frame rates as long as the clips are in the same frame frequency group (i.e. 30/60, 25/50…24p cannot be mixed with other frame rates)

“Mixed Recording” can be enabled in the maintenance menu on the decks and in the control panel software for the portable drives.

Discs are ‘agnostic’ after formatting. It’s the first clip you copy/record that determines the limitations/spec for the disc.

Also make sure FREE NAMING is enabled on the optical disc deck. This is in the ops menu on the decks and in the control panel software for the drives. If this is disabled only clips with generic, hardware-generated clip names (C0001, C0002) will be accepted.

this comes up a LOT and the most common culprit is the rec mode. you have to be in an SP 1440 record mode for anything to be output via the firewire. the camera will not downconvert 35 Mb to 25 Mb. you also need to enable the i.LINK in the menu and disable the SDI. if you are sure you are seeing it on another system it is probably not any of these but based on how often this comes up i feel compelled to mention it..

the other common culprit is the Windows firewire driver. try going into Device Manager and loading the legacy driver instead. you need to first ‘uninstall’ the W7 driver from DM, then when asked what driver you want to use select the option to ‘choose from a list’ and select the ‘Legacy’ driver. if this doesn’t do it you can always revert back to the W7 driver as you aren’t really uninstalling anything when you do this from DM.

what do you see in your Apple System Profiler under ‘Firewire’?
