As mentioned on the link from Mathieu there is currently no Share > Media Browser option, but in the settings when sharing as a Master File there is ‘Publish to Media Browser’ in the When Done menu under Settings.
When I tried this the following happened:
– Without prompting me for a location, the MOV was exported to the Shared Items folder inside the project folder. This is also the home of the .plist that tracks all shared files.
– At the same time iTunes launched itself. I’m not sure why because the ‘Publish to Media Browser’ option isn’t in the ‘ADD TO ITUNES’ category.
I was under the impression that Media Browser was a collective name for the Effects Browser, Transitions Browser, etc.

February 10, 2013 at 1:33 pm in reply to: Opinions on what NLE to teach on a new BA in Film & Screen Media ProductionI’m also a teacher.
After running legacy FCP for ten years, we made the decision to switch to FCPX and couldn’t be happier. The students love it and they’re producing fantastic work. The two things that students always struggle with: the initial setting up / ingesting media and the exporting of their final piece are handled so much better in X than other NLE.
We always run a six hour film challenge with our first years: plan, shoot and edit a factual piece on a particular theme. In previous years we always gave then 30-60 minutes longer for them to finish their edit. When using FCPX they finished before the deadline.
People have been saying that we should teach students what the industry uses now. I believe we should teach them what the industry will be using in 3-5 years time. I also think that graduates entering the industry will influence what technology will be used. Film students embraced legacy FCP several years before it was taken seriously by the media industry.

November 16, 2012 at 9:31 am in reply to: School is upgrading video editing software and Mac operating system need opinions.I work at a university in the North East of England. We’ve been using FCP since 2002. We’ve also had PC labs with Premiere Pro for the past 3-4 years.
We have FCP Legacy / FCPX on 20 student Macs in one building and also have a new 10 Mac lab with FCPX only. The response from students has been very positive, they learn FCPX quickly and enjoy using it. Even those that have previous experience with Legacy, Premiere, etc.
We’ve also noticed that during a project with 1st years students, they finish their projects quicker using FCPX than previous years did with Legacy.

November 15, 2012 at 9:28 am in reply to: Audio waveforms tough to edit to the beat to FCPXHi Olly,
I always do it by ear. I usually find myself doing a little dance on my swivel chair to get into the groove of the music!
As you can see from the working with markers link I posted, you can nudge markers a frame at a time to line them up with the peaks if you prefer
Another approach you could consider if your beat points are regularly spaced is to calculate how many frames / seconds you want between markers. If for example it was 3 secs 4 frames, click in the Dashboard and type +3.04 to move the Playhead, then press M to place a marker.

The approach I use is: edit the audio only into the Primary Storyline, then while playing, set Markers by ear using the M key.

Then with Snapping active, you can set a range between your markers and use these as In and Out Points for editing your video as Connected clips.

November 5, 2012 at 5:11 pm in reply to: Any Recommendations For DVD / Bluray Authoring SoftwareYou can create a basic menu for both DVD and Blu-Ray using Toast Titanium. There are a number of default menus. You can customize the menu background with your own image, but that might be for DVD only.
Obviously it’s not going to have the flexibility of DVD Studio Pro or Encore, but might be worth investigating.

I would deal with it like this in Motion or After Effects: grab a still image from your footage, draw a mask (with feather) around the area you want to use to cover the mic, position the masked image over the mic, track the movements in the shot, apply the track to the masked image, fiddle with the brightness, colour, position and feather of the masked image so it blends in.

“Can optimized media be ProRes LT?”This is an interesting question and one I’ve been asking myself. We noticed that when AVCHD was imported into FCPX 10.0.5 the bitrate was 120 Mbit/s. This is lower than standard ProRes422 (147 Mbit/s, HD at 60i), but higher than ProRes422 LT (100 Mbit/s, HD at 60i).
The footage was HD, but not 60i, so that might be a factor. But we were wondering whether FCPX intelligently scales the quality of ProRes according to the quality of the original media. I believe the bitrate for the camera format was 24 Mbit/s, so ProRes LT would certainly be good enough.

Yep, looks like you need to purchase a license to remove the watermark in Easy HTML5. Scroll down the main page and look under Download.
