You list 2 totally different types of things so it would take 2 windows to handle it. Your title, video clip and audio clip can all reside in a “Favorites” bin that you can have parked anywhere you like. Effects can’t sit in a bin, though you can, and I do, have a separate “favorites” folder in the effects window, with everything you normally use in one spot.

Nope, not agreed.

Changing brand names is dangerous, as anyone in marketing would tell you. Many casual forum followers would stop coming the moment they couldn’t find the forum in it’s usual place. This forum has built a “brand” and users know where to find it by it’s “geography” in the forum listing. This is why it wasn’t folded into the “Art of Editing” forum years ago.

Stop thinking of this issue through the eyes of a motivated user and start thinking of it through the lens of a proprietor who sells traffic (that’s us) to advertisers. it’s why successful TV shows rarely changed what night they were on and never changed names. If changing the name might cost The Cow 2% of the traffic but keeping the name costs them nothing but grumpy members who end up creating traffic by engaging in threads about changing the name – then what choice do you think Bessie will make.

The reason that Apple should come first is to keep the listing in the same place in the Forum Index – remember the idea is no lost traffic. Alphabetical correctness comes in a distant second.

Indeed.

I have 2 different systems, the first uses dual 24″ screens, the other uses a single narrow Samsung 34″ screen.

For the single screen system I have simply modified the the standard Ppro supplied layouts that sit at the top of the screen in a “workspace layout bar”- I switch between these 4 constantly during the day: Assembly which accentuates the media tabs, Editing accentuates the timeline, Color which focuses on the Color Panel and Scopes, and Audio which brings the Track Mixer to full focus.It’s easy enough to modify each of the default layouts to allow for my own need for the multicam viewer at all points.

The dual screen layout is different, I tend to stay with one layout throughout the day, partly because the “workspace layout bar” gets hidden when going dual screen, and even though Ppro gives me the ability to change workspaces through keyboard shortcuts I find that I don’t need it as much with all the screen real estate I have with this system. I also find that Ppro sometimes gets a little confused when handling dual screen layouts, or else I’m doing something weird when I customize them.

The customization is essential for me as I’m a finicky old grouch who wants everything to be just so, and I appreciate this aspect of working with Ppro.

Why don’t You do the petitioning if the forum title bothers you so much. This has been a frequent request over the years, as you well know. But the old “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” argument tends to prevail. To paraphrase Annie Hall, people come here for the eggs.

As for you posting about FCPX on the Ppro site – have at it. I’m sure Tim won’t mind, especially if you stir up some traffic.

Dave –

Exporting using AME is even more cumbersome than re-setting the TC in Ppro. Roundtripping between Ppro and Audition has been a huge productivity gain for me in dealing with audio, it’s just this one stupid thing that makes it harder than necessary and I was hoping I was just missing some setting somewhere. If not I’ll have to start whining about this to Adobe and see if they can’t fix it.

There is no chance, none, that a virtual glass keyboard can be used with the same efficiency as a dedicated keyboard. If it were so then people whose very livelihoods are based on their tactile efficiency would migrate there. But the opposite is true. Dedicated tactile keyboards, whether for audio mixing or piano playing, are the province of those who demand the highest efficiency in their work surfaces. It is amazing how fast some folks get with virtual keyboards, but the fact remains they would be even faster with dedicated ones.

the argument for virtual keyboards is the same as for most technological improvements – lighter, cheaper (and in the case of virtual keyboards) more flexible and ALMOST as good.
