September 13, 2012 at 10:12 pm in reply to: RAM Preview renders wrong resolution / video sizeHi Inés,
Just to see a quick preview with audio, this is how I would do it:
Change the resolution to half in the ‘preview’ options (see “1.” in picture below) and then I would also change it to half in the option below your working canvas (see 2nd picture). I’m not sure if this step makes any difference but I do it anyway..
I then always tick “from current time” (in picture 1) so that I am only previewing the parts that I want to see. Then I hit the funny looking “play” button (“2.” in the 1st picture). Once it has renered enough of your project for viewing you can hit the play button again to start watching in real time.. with sound!
In my understanding, After Effects isn’t so savvy with sound. It’s very temperamental with it. I’d say have a search for your specific sound problems if it’s still not working. And double, triple check your settings in the ‘preview’ window and the actual track, that it’s not muted or something.
When you are finished with your project and you want to add it to the render queue make sure you change all your render settings back to ‘full’. There’s a box in the video settings in the render queue which you must tick “sound” and select your sounds settings next to it. Often people don’t see that small box but maybe you already know what I’m talking about and it’s a different problem.
Well, good luck!

September 11, 2012 at 11:33 pm in reply to: RAM Preview renders wrong resolution / video sizeHi Inés,
Half resolution is going to give you a video size of half the project settings you have set it to, that’s what the resolution is. What are you hoping to achieve by setting it to ‘half’ resolution? What are your project settings? Also, when you say ‘render’ the RAM preview do you mean ‘adding it to render que’ for export and played back in quicktime (or equivalent) or just to view within your project in real time with audio? This will help me understand your audio problem too.
Thanks,
Hemma

September 9, 2012 at 9:46 am in reply to: FCP 7 splitting sync into 2 separate sequencesHave you tried playing around with your PluralEyes settings? There is an option you can choose to put all synced clips into the one sequence or separate. The default setting is to sync them into separate sequences.
HTH!

Hi Jon,
In Final Cut Pro, after you have searched for the HD have you tried dragging it into the left column where it usually shows up? I have had this problem randomly pop up on me too, but not in FCP, just in the normal finder window.
Hope this helps!

September 1, 2012 at 12:25 am in reply to: Why is my PC having problems running AE CS6?Hi Conner,
My understanding of After Effects is that it is quite a beastly program. In good ways, and in bad ways when it comes to having insufficient computer power. Much more so than Vegas and Final Cut (where a I do all my first cuts). I have an apple i7 8GB and after effects deals with everything fine until I start using certain plugins like plexus. I recently upgraded to cs6 and tried out the 3D functions (extrusion etc). Not happy! It didn’t crash but was ridiculously slow. If I really need 3D in After Effects then I will do all my animating, camera movements etc first and then very lastly tick the box and create extrusions etc.
I would suggest trying to play around with RAM preview settings (start at 1/4) and your resolution on the bottom bar (1/4 also). It makes it pixelated but maybe you can switch between the two.
I have tried mucking around with optimization in After Effects and some things helped but not a lot with ‘plexus’ and 3D workspace. There are heaps of tuts on that topic if you fish around.
There may be installation issues as well if you want to look into uninstalling and re-installing it.
Just remember that After Effects is not comparable to the processing power required for video editing programs like final cut and sony.
Hope this helps!
Welcome to After Effects 🙂

January 25, 2012 at 7:15 am in reply to: Problems with Plexus Plugin – jumping every few framesThanks Dave,
But I seemed to have fixed it. For anyone else…
I was key framing the wrong effect. It’s of course jumping as I’m adding extra dots over time, so new dots for the lines to join to.
I’ll have to have a look at another way to achieve the look I’m going for.
Thanks again. 🙂

October 14, 2011 at 12:31 am in reply to: Changing Mask Opacity to fade in part of object that is masked out is not working..??GREAT!! Adding the extra mask on top of the other worked like magic! I don’t know why but I’m happy to just move passed that block & maybe another time work out why that solved everything.
Thanks Angelo & Pentti!!
Hopefully this will also help other people with the same problem too.

October 2, 2011 at 9:20 am in reply to: Changing Mask Opacity to fade in part of object that is masked out is not working..??Great! That worked if I created it as a pre-comp as I have lots of layers & a colour burn already applied to this layer of the lady. But the only problem is that the mask has to move/ animate in this sequence. And applying this technique straight into the comp (without a pre-comp) created what you can see here:
Because it has the blend mode set to “silhouette alpha” there was no way of adding “colour burn” also.
If there’s no solution to this then I could just keep flicking between the pre-comp and the comp & try to get the movement of the mask to match up to that of the main composition & import into main comp… That idea is incredibly unappealing.
