  • You can use the Notes field to add all that info you want. Just arrange it so it´s next the clip name in the browser and it will show up in the timeline index as well.

I believe there is a 16MB limit for videos in whatsapp, so you’ll need lower the bitrate a lot (unless they’ve increased it). Compressor gives you an estimated file size as you fiddle with the bitrate settings.

FWIW I’m having the same issue, with an old BM Decklink card. I thought it could be some kind of incompatibility with the hackintosh it’s currently in, but maybe it’s a Sierra thing.
My current workaround is to use two set of speakers, a cheaper set hooked on the line out for the early stage of an edit and the better one on the decklink for the final stage. Not ideal, but it’s pretty easy to switch between the two.

And if you want to change the duration once in the timeline, select the clips, hit ctrl-D an input the desired duration.
Another tip is use the timeline index to select the clips, you can search for specific name and then select them all. Very handy if the clips are non-contiguous.

  • My HDMI monitor is listed in the A/V Output in the preferences along with the Decklink card, so I think FCPX would need to receive some feedback from the device to make it available, which apparently is not the case with your DVI converter.

Try to ask at the Blackmagic or AJA forum.

  • Wait, you probably won’t need the BM driver for the converter.

Is the AV Output greyed out in the preferences or the Window menu?

  • I believe the Blackmagic converter should work, but the driver is currently not playing nice with FCPX 10.3.x, crashing constantly. I leave the A/V Output off most of the time while editing and just turn it on for playback, then off again.
Maybe the AJA stuff is better.

That’s weird. Upgrade to 10.3.2 if you haven’t already.

Instead of cropping you can use Alex4D Widescreen Matte above the clips:

Same thing here. Also happens sometimes when pasting from one project to another and some trimming situations.
Pretty annoying, but I’ve gotten used to hit cmd-1 cmd-2 quickly.
