Consolidate collect files outside you libraries, and get them to one location… here is from FCPX help page:
Consolidate projects, events, and libraries
In the course of creating a project, you might use media files from a variety of locations, including your local computer and external storage devices. If the media used in a project, an event, or a library is located in multiple folders or on multiple hard disks, you can consolidate all the media in one location (on one hard disk).
You can copy the media into the library file, move it from a library to an external folder, or move it between two different external folders. This process facilitates archiving and makes it easier for others to access the media (using shared storage, for example).

Nope!
That would require some work. Unused clips could go, but unused media is hard, then you need to cut the files, and i.e. r3d files are not that easy.

Hi Anders and a happy new year.
You should try the new fcpx 10.1. It has really grown up. It now has a much easier system with its library and plays very fast.
I’ve made the switch in two small production companies (10 users and 4 users), both running old macs and some newer (soon a black new mac pro :)). And Xsan. And I’m very satisfied with the system.
We are running, FCPX for editing and finishing, Resolve for color, and AE and motion for motion stuff, and Nuendo for sound. It all just works!
What are the main problems in television ?

Hi Frank, I’ve made a tool for cleaning up a project before archiving. It is very useful if you have a lot of libraries, and projects (now called fcpevents).
It will give you info about how many files and GB to delete and one button to do it all.
Check it out:

Never do a move og delete here… this is now where FCPX stores it’s events and projects…
FCPX now uses libraries and they are stored as name.fcpbundle
Also, check out my app X-wiper for cleaning up event/projects and in the new version 1.6 libraries.
here you can delete renders/proxies/transcoded media and optical flow files in one go, on all libraries or just one…
The new version 1.6 will be online, first week of 2014 at the latest…

December 22, 2013 at 6:54 am in reply to: How to edit a video to play on 3 simultanious screens. Video art installation.Hi Chrix,
My setup is using one macMini per TV and one for controlling the whole thing. On my last setup I used another macmine (I had some old already) for 4 channel audio playback.
Commercial wise I say WATCHOUT (for PC) is the best, they have timelines, full control, uploads, mapping, and constrant syncing etc. but it costs, a lot.
Renewedvision, proplayer2 is a very nice mac alternativ, much of the same, but no timeline. Also version 1 sync was only start of video, not during.
Mine, syncs several times per second if needed.
If videos are going to play in sync you need to pay attention, some solution offers only “all start” button, but no check after to se if all files a actually playing in sync. And believe me I done a lot of testing here.
Also, when playing full HD on a mac mini, please avoid a lot of big panning and titling. H.264 codec will sometimes skip frames. If using bigger macs it should be no problem, just check first in a regular QT player on that mac/pc you are going to use. Se if it will play 25 or 24 fps at full HD. Then start testing several movies in sync. Remember to have the specific TV and mac mini for testing. Or the result can differ, and have enough time.
/helge (hating video innstallations not playing in sync….. even 1 frame is irritating :))
PS!: also check out this box: https://www.alcorn.com/products/hdbinloop/
But this one is really expensive, but quite simple -

December 22, 2013 at 12:37 am in reply to: How to edit a video to play on 3 simultanious screens. Video art installation.Hi Chrix,
I’ve done this many times. I have even written my own program for playback. For a installation, it runs in loop mode. I program the macs to start up by themselves and shut down as well.
When they start, they all start my player app, then a controller mac is running a master app. Now they all stay in sync.
For editing:
Do three timelines, but them together in a master timeline for checking. Then render out the three seperate files. For comercial solutions: you have renewed visions video playback solution, and the swedish product: Watchout from :https://www.dataton.com
The last installation I’m on is a videowall of 11 full HD screens on a long row. 21120×1080 edit.
