2 things..

1. as long as a file has the same number of tracks, duration and name
you can simply replace it in the volume and it should reconnect

as red shots come in folders, you will have to manually place the new files (same name) in the corresponding folders.

avid might be able to rescan the drive (with original files hidden or not on it) and reconnect the files, however, this won’t be automatic

didn’t try this specific workflow, but it seams it should work

2. why not try this (if still possible)
mount all RED volumes via AMA
inside avid make your logging decisions. you can even rename
if you need a specific look you can load one you’ve made in REDCINE or REDALERT by right clicking a file (or files) in the bin and selecting “set source settings”
then transcode in avid, you can chose a lower DNX if its a long project with a lot of footage, you can always reconform your sequence to originals (R3D) and then transcode it to higher DNX

or just transcode once to 175x and keep working
i think it might be faster than the way you use now

i do not trust them…. not after trusting the most expensive DVD’s few years back and realizing it was a mistake,

also… 25 or 50 gig is not enough… not anymore

LTO, with 800 gigs for about 50$ sounds more like it…

i’m actually planning to purchase one soon.

are you trying to bring it into liquid?

if you’re bringing it to MC, try encoding it first, using squeez or mpeg streamclip to a DNX file then bring it in avid, you most probably won’t lose quality when doing this.

i’m not familiar with liquid, but if there is a favorable codec liquid likes, you could use this advice and transcode before import. do mind that some codecs will lose quality compared to original

maybe you can try reinstalling Avid’s codec pack, it comes as a separate installer or can be downloaded. it might overwrite the version you mistakenly installed

it is possible, however not supported for realtime options, meaning, you’ll have to render everything

create a new sequence

go to sequence settings (right click the sequence)

chose “custom” for size and put in your numbers

make the sequence square pixel

and no field dominance

for QT video settings, use prores

click ok.

throw in your video, FCP will ask whether you want the sequence changed by the video, say NO.

video will resize to fit your new, custom sequence

now right click video in timeline, and select remove attributes

chose “basic motion”, and “distort”

your video will grow back to its original size.

click w until you see an X on your video (wireframe)

with mouse, drag and reposition your video the way you want

render, and export – quicktime movie – current settings

i would recommend the following workflow

i believe you captured via FW to HDV files.
next time
capture to Prores HQ (you have a preset for that, HDV – Prores, in the audio video settings

use a Prores sequence setting

export quicktime movie using current settings – do not recompress all frames

in compressor, do what Rafael recommended in his reply

test this out for a short segment, and compare it to what you got previously

George, you should really try to group your question to one post…. will make it easier to help you

generally you should NOT recompress all frames and export using current settings.

however… that depends on other factors

what was it shot on?

what are your sequence settings?

is the only output going to be SD DVD?

also, what was it shot on?

and why the jpeg 2000 conversion? was it done by sequence settings?

…dvd’s tend to generally look less than desirable when compared to their HD source
