I finally figured out my problem all the settings were just fine. It turned out that the HDMI cable was too much for my computer to handle sending a clear output to a HDTV. I switched to a coaxial cable and it started working perfectly.

I am not quite sure what you are asking. But form what I gather, you could try key framing the mask’s scale. You can click the mask in the time line, and his apple T to transform like you do in photoshop. Hold shift and you can scale the mask down equally all around. Hope that is what you were asking.

I am having the same problem with the same machine. I knew about the not keeping stuff on the desktop part. However that got me thinking, the profile’s desktop I am working on is all cleaned up. If there is another profile on the same computer with stuff on its desktop do you think that might be slowing me down or have no effect?

Unfortunately I never figured that one out. My computer started crashing a lot not to long after. I am pretty sure I just need a faster computer or my drive is messed up. I wish I was a tech guy.

Yeah, working of external drives that just happens no matter how fast it is. If you are on a mac try the disc utility see if it can help. Also I know it is a pain in the ass and I hate doing it too but if you go to file> Consolidate all footage, and save it to your computer. Work off you computer directly that will help it go faster. Then just re-save it to the external once you are done delete everything and do the same with your next project.

I was having the same problem and I ended up figuring out that it was a problem with my drive. Are you working off an external drive? That might be the problem. Also it helps to hit caps lock when rendering. That will keep the screen form rendering too, that will help things go smoother if you are not already doing that.

Yeah thought of that but I need it alphaed over nothing and screen mode only works on top of another solid layer

Time remapping can be tricky if you are new to after effects and take a long time to get just right. Also that is a good way to ease motion and for a robot you don’t really want that. I would just freeze for a a few frames at the end of each move he makes. Or if you really want to practice animation, find a good frame to freeze and roto all of his limbs and animate him yourself.

I did try the restart. Im not sure how to reinstall the drivers on my video card. I will figure that out and try that. At this point I am pretty sure that it is a video card or ram issue. Appreciate your advice.

My output to an external monitor is HDMI. I did make sure my canvas is fit to window. Like I said the playback display is not the issue. That works I have no problems there. I can see the canvas on my external monitors, I have even tried two different ones. Its just once I hit play the video does not play. The audio does just not the video. The display changes on the playback monitor when it is paused to whatever frame it I’m on and I can see the display change when I scrub through. I just can’t figure out why it won’t play back.
