All I know is that the guy who runs the dub house where we get work done says that he gets lots of stuff shot on the Sony HDV camera that he dubs over to HDCAM and it gets aired. Sometimes he goes from a HDV tape, but more and mnore he goes from the timeline of Final Cut Pro. I also know that years ago he used to take MiniDV masters and dub it to BetaSP (later to DigiBeta) for delivery…. I know because we were one of many clients who did it.

    Thanks,
    Harry.

Seems like the most popular answers are to keep the CPU performance at HIGHEST in the Engery Contol Panel, and one can use CHUD to disallow processor napping… this means that you will be full power – so the fans might kick in more often…

hmmm…. now i too have the very long repair permissions – all widgets – never getting fixed… I am also having some serious page loading problems with amoung others pricegrabber.com (is slow as hell – lierally takes more than a minute to click anywhere) … I had to breakout internet explorer – launch it, type in pricegrabber, do my search and get results before safari was ready for me to make a click….

bummer… will have to look into this

    Thanks,
    Harry.

Sounds like you have selected the already formatted drive… ie one that you named (Media Drive A, My music hd) already. Try clickin on actual drive icon in the app – it will have a name like Maxtor 233.8 GB 7yb8o5 – or (Seagate, or whomever made it).

    Thanks,
    Harry.

Like Jeff said – not sure how much $ you want to spend & not sure what you really need this system to do. You say ‘play’ with HDV… Is this for Hobby? Income? How long do you need the computer to last?

The quad is probably overkill…. afterall we produce (not on HDV – but Digibeta) about 65+ shows a year for PBS with a Dual 2gig G5 and 2 gigs of RAM. I also like a SATA raid more than a firewire – either will do. Try a roll your own Burlybox from macgurus.com – buy the dirves Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 400 GB SATA 8 MB cache – form elsewhere, maybe pricegrabber.com.

You WILL want to get your ram from crucial – might not need soo much…. can always add more if needed.

There are almost always deals on the Dell 24in lcd – it has component, composite, DVI, many flashmemory card readers and is lots cheaper than the apple – seems liek it can be had for $800 right now with all the right coupons…see barefeats.com

    Thanks,
    Harry.
