I HATE the ergonomics of the XL1 and Sony EX3 – find them a pain to handhold… much prefer the XF300 even if it is lens heavy… BUT it is totally subjective. One man’s handhold treasure is another’s handhold trash. Also I would not say the Xf300 is much smaller than either… it is pretty large but I love it.

    Thanks,
    Harry

Here is the 96LED… I actually used 9 additional LEDs from the 1st set to make it reach all the way around twice. It really throws out a decent amount of light.

    Found a better / cheaper / brighter / 96 LED string here:
    https://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&category=BARS&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2FWFLB96.htm#photos

only $23 for 96 LEDs rather than $20 for 48 LEDs !!! This also means less wire splicing to get a longer string – so now I have a double ring.

Also I used the Enercell device to charge up my iPhone and it is still running the 96 LED for over an hour straight!

    Thanks,
    Harry

I’ll probably go get another 2 strings of LEDs to get more omph out of it.

  • I had the exact same problem (exporting to regular ProRes – not HQ). It did not show up in FCP (7.0.3 and OSX 10.7.2) only on the exported clip.

I ‘fixed’ it by match framing the clip and re-dropping them in the timeline – pain in the ass. Not sure if recompress is faster or not – but it is at least a set and forget fix….

    Thanks,
    Harry

Which hack did you use? I just installed the ‘spanmybitchup’ and it looks MUCH noisier at 10,000 ISO. My lens is not as fast (f2.5) so not as bright either.

I usually need to span my clips, but maybe I should go for one of he higher bit rates.

    Nice stuff… almost TOO BRIGHT!

    Thanks,

August 11, 2011 at 10:39 pm in reply to: AVCHD workflow: is it a PITA?

Never actually timed it, but faster than digitizing from tape! If I had to guess, I’d say I just did a 20minute clip in about 10 minutes?

Also in FCP 7 you can continue editing while the log & transfer is happening, so as soon as 1 clip is in you can start working while the others come in. That alone makes it fairly painless. Obviously you’ll suck up a lot more drive space…

I can;t wait for those new Panny cameras to come out.

    Thanks,
    Harry

    Jamie,

When you say deleted it off the disk – like gone… empty trash?
Is there an option (control click or something) where it would be
removed from the event, but not from the drive?

    Thanks,
    Harry
