One more thought about the design… how often do you plug in a thumb drive? Headphones? Or drive from a client? All the time… but will I have it facing backside out? Or will I have to reach around? Turn it? Will it be easy to turn with a bunch of things plugged in?

    hmmm….

    Thanks,
    Harry

That is indeed small… I don;t think I realized just how small it was…

But think how many more happier people there would be if instead of a 3 sided triangle with a thermal core, they built it 4 sided with the 4th side composed of hard drives… even if it could only hold 2 of them… still be nice to have 2 – 4 TB internal… and the cube could be an homage to Jobs.

Either way – I already want one even if it would still sit on an eyesore of a desk…

    Thanks,
    Harry

I was also hoping it would float a ping pong ball – but the top vent looks too large…

  • Is it happening from shot to shot with no change in lighting or camera settings? Does it happen in the middle of a shot – like 30 seconds into a 60 sec shot it just gets noisy? If yes – you’ll need to talk to Canon service.

Mark’s idea is a good one. Also the make sure all AUTO GAIN / FULL AUTO switches are set to off.

Framegrab of what you consider offending amount of noise might also help.

    Thanks,
    Harry

  • Always good to do the basic checks 1dt. Have turned the switch on the left side form FULL AUTO switch from ON to OFF?

Next make sure the AGC switch on the same side of the camera just closer to the lens is also turned to off?

As far as the CF card. Try recording a few minutes on it then re-format it. If it still goes down to 7GB try doing it in the other slot.

Just saw the date you posted this – hope this still helps or you figured it out.

    Thanks,

1st – congrats! You’ll enjoy the HD world.

2nd – I love the Canon XF300 and hear only good things re: the 100. Are those the only cameras you are looking at? I hear the 300 just had a big price drop. Also Sony has a new 50mb camera with 1/2 inch chips… and a new GoPro hero3 could be good to hide on stage…

3rd – I edit at home on a 2.93 quad core i7 iMac and it does fairly well as far as rendering in FCP 7. Are you still using FCP 7? Which 27inch iMac do you have? Might be worth waiting to see if you really need the whole new mac or just a lot or firewire or thunderbolt storage (you will need LOTS more storage) and some more ram.

4th – hard to say if it will increase the quality as much as you are expecting… sadly probably not LOTS better… but if it is compelling… or if it is a video of your kid, most people will not notice. All they will see is their kid and love it.

    Good luck.

    Thanks,
    Harry

Like Al I use a xf300 and think it is way better for run & gun than a dslr… as would a sony EX1 (or the new 50mb sony) or panny AC130 / 160… these cameras are literally made for video – unlike a digital still camera that can shoot video.

Also like Al said you need to know what you are shooting and what is most important: cheap price, DOF, low light, image….

    Good luck.

September 11, 2012 at 11:02 pm in reply to: Does anyone have some recommendations for a light kit?

If you use cheap, cheaper and cheapest as your scale (and it sounds like you might have to) I suggest some CFL lights. You can get a 2 light (equal to 1000 watts per) kit for a few hundred dollars with stands & softbox AND they are cool and will not blow the fuse box.

Next might be some LED knockoffs. these are even cooler and will probably run off easy to find cheap batteries.

re: DSLR – Expect announcements for new cameras (Panny GH3 ? others?) next week – so you could get one of those or the old model at reduced cost.

    Good Luck.

    Thanks,
    Harry

  • Seems like a missed advertising opportunity for just about EVERY single multi-bank seller out there. “Not 1, not 2, but 3 possible settings”….
