Actually, on my E drive, which contains my captured clips, I currently have several projects under way.
imgI haven’t adjusted the icons for all of these folders yet. I realize you want a kind of template. My workflow is to capture all my clips to my E drive, in a directory ‘Original clips’ and then the name of the project.

June 13, 2006 at 10:19 am in reply to: Need HELP on making a procedure with premiere pro 1.5 that will work and be time effective please help!!I have used the Matrox RT.X100 with PP 1.5 and pulled it out due to instability and field reversal issues. I now only work with a run-of-the-mill OHCI card and have no (significant) problems anymore.
My workflow is:
Analog material is first converted to DV. I hardly use analog material, so the extra step to copy analog to DV is hardly an issue for me.
DV is captured with Scenalyzer and imported into PP 2.0 and edited.
For color correction I mainly use either the 3-way color correction filter or Color Finesse from Synthetic Aperture, a plug-in.I export using AME and the Minnetonka Surcode plug-in for 5.1 sound.
I import the .m2v and .ac3 files into Encore. No transcoding required. This suits me fine.

June 6, 2006 at 9:08 am in reply to: Need advice on how many DVDs for 4.5 hours of videoWhen I read the heading of your post, my initial thoughts were indeed 4 DVD’s. That leaves you with very good quality, the cost of 4 DVD’s is peanuts and you can use a DVD case for 4 disk’s.

You should throw out the DVStorm. Despite Canopus plug-in and drivers, you are asking for trouble if you leave it installed. Use the DVStrom card as a door-stopper. That is the best use for it currently, unless you go back to Premiere 6.5.

There is even a 4 eSATA PCI-X card with Raid possibility for HDV.

Use eSATA Carbus adapter such as from Lindy and connect 2 eSATA portable disks. If you are going for HDV it will not be enough, but for SD that is sufficient.

Mark,
Just to let you know, the newest 750 GB Seagates using perpendicular storage have been tested as one of the fastest drives around, albeit not the quietest, coming in on some tests as even quicker than the WD Raptors. In a Raid6 configuration with 8 disks, this would give you a whopping 4.5 TB effective storage.

Mark,
My experience with these server cases is that they do not cause heating problems, because they have lots of large fans built in and use good air ducts to direct the airflow as efficiently as possible. They are also very quiet.
I have a dual Xeon server here with 7 internal HD’s in a Raid5 that is cooler and quieter than my ThermalTake workstation with 6 internal HD’s.
Hope this helps.

Ron,
I forgot to mention that the advantage of the SuperMicro case is IMHO the effective airstream. cooling and quietness of the case, although the CoolerMaster has a good reputation as well.
If you need more storage capacity, you might want to have look at this site:

Their 24 disk raid system would be sufficient for most ordinary jobs.Harm Millaard
