I know what your saying. I’m in the exact same position. I can work a camera, I’m happy in 3D BUT when it comes to those beautiful long fluid and dymnamic camera moves I get bogged down pretty quickly and really struggle with it.
I think it really is a case of understanding expressions. With that you can set up up beautiful controls for your camera that way.
Some good pointers I have got have come from this project using his camera animation template

But yeah, its a dark art 🙂 And I’m still learning, because expressions confuse the crap out of me! 🙂

Great thread, and I think we all speaketh the truth in various ways.
I have always believed this craft should and can be sold on talent not hardware and I still do, but at the end of the day, when you are running a business, there are times when a job is a job, and grand arguments of creativity vs hardware don’t cut it when the client is willing to go elsewhere for cheaper. Sometimes, and maybe more so in recent times, you got suck it in and get that job in the door.
This aint perfect I agree to that. But as always, we are always trying to grow, trying to offer more than the next guy, try to position ourselves to we can start billing more so on.
I supposes the point I’m trying to make is that the theory and the practise is often a little out of step. Particularly when you’ve had a slow month and you need to pay the rent.
So yes, I think the democratization of the industry is a good thing in the end, definitely.
But there are going to be bumps along the way, and at times, that guy in his bedroom with a FCS2 at hand is going to piss you off. -
This all seems pretty damn cool. I just have to learn it now. As an editor, mainly in corporate I’ve made it all up in the way I have colour corrected. (more or less)
Looks now I have to learn the process properly. Which is good I reckon.Hopefully some good books will come out over the next year or so, so I can learn the process properly.

I didn’t realise that zaxwerks shows layers that are turned off in illustrator. So deleting those revealed the ‘fixed’ layer.

I’d like to pick up on this as well.
I have a logo, (mainly text). And the text has all been made outlines and they are all compound paths.when I import it in, my O in the logo does not have a centre hole. If I duplicate that layer in AI then that layer will be with a hole. weird.
Other letters like R and P are fine, with their holes. Just this one layer.
I’m in invigorator pro.
any ideas? Thankyou! I would rather keep the logo as a single file rather than using multiple layers to rebuild it if thats possible.

Ben, thanks for your reply. I just needed to be pushed in the right direction. 🙂
OK Ive read up a little about transport stream vs program stream
(in laymans terms)
Transport stream is used for broadcast but also the encoding for DVD.
Program stream (and this is very basic description) will be a file with a quicktime icon rather than the .m2t or .mtv files. (???)
Now, how would I get a program stream mpg2 out of compressor? I’ve tried a number of settings but it only seems to output .m2t or .mtv files. (For mpg2)
The way around it is then taking those files and running them through streamclip. That seems to have a mpg2 muxed setting I can convert too.
Is this right?
Again thanks for your help.

I remember working in the UK a few years ago (now back home down under). Digi decks I worked with all set to -18db.
but in the end, in theory it doesn’t matter does it? If it clearly says at the beginning of the tape what the tone is set at. Then thats all that is needed. Its just a reference point so all users of the tape are on the same page. is it not?
so is it just a matter of stations standardizing the process so there is no possible glitches or mistakes on settings?Audio has always confused me for the same reason its a long thread here. Different standards. I don’t do final mixes for broadcast for that reason, I send it to a audio house.

PAL delivery. Yeah, I’ve just found that Nattress plug in online just then! Hadn’t heard of it before. But its a time issue now. We have shipped it out for dubs instead. The render times seem prohibative for the amount of footage we have.

No not a stupid question. Just a stupid person here. (slaps head, getting coffee)
I did that silly thing of assuming that because I saw the NTSC light glowing on the front and watching it on the monitor it auto switched or something.I was wrong….
Thankyou..My next issue is all workflow related..
How to best fix this formats on the timeline. Or am I just best to get the tapes properly converted first lest I was endless issues on a tight deadline?
