for some reason I didn’t think you could track a comp?! thanks!

thankyou all for replying – I installed the script in the right folder, but it does not show in ‘Windows – Scripts’. I shows in the ‘File – Queue.jsx’ but doesn’t seem to do anything when I click it. Thankyou for posting anyway, I hope others find it useful.
My workaround ended up something like this (like Dave mentioned also)

I have 2 scenes within 1 comp. To render each scene in order in the render queue, I made a new comp with only part 1 in, another with only part 2 in (dividing comps up into however many new comps are needed.
The key step is to then OPEN each comp, and select the render area WITHIN the ‘sub-comp’. The master comp will only render one area again and again, regardless of what area you select with the markers.I can’t help feeling the queue script is a much needed addition to AE in future editions, I’ll let them know! . . .

you know I suspected that might be the case, I guess it does render as fast as cs5 with the plugin. good info about the settings, I’ll test them all out, thankyou all

thankyou, that configuration seems to work well. 75gb ram? holy crap, I guess that’s what people use for actual realtime HD layered comps!?

PS. I can’t seem to change the 3gb RAM reserved for other applications

yes, thankyou, my system is: i7-2600 eight core @ 3.4ghz, 16gb ram, 1.8 tb storage and a 3gb ati card.
The strange thing is, I get renders faster when I use ‘1.5gb oer core’ than 3gb per core, that’s weird?
I’m far from complaining though, because a 2x increase in render speed is awesome. -
