Ditch the HD and install a single 512MB Ram and you’re running on the net. I’ve done a similar thing with my G3 400 and it works and crashes like it never did before. (Means: backs ups my files, browses the net and does not crash…). I filled the box up with old sub 120GB drives that I had ditched – and all of a sudden I have some hundred GBs worth of extra BU space over ethernet too.

First I didn’t think this was related to my other problems, but noone can chat with me -;)
When someone tries to accept my videostream, basically nothing happens and they get a msg that they didn’t accept.

First I thought this wa a problem at the other side. But as I am the one who cannot be connected…

This definitely sounds like a fierwall/router problem! BUT exact same thing happens when I am directly logged into the modem.

Firewalls have been disabled on macs on both side of the connection.

This too started as i upgraded to Panther.

I think I’ll have to try and do an archive and install over again, if Tiger lets me downgrade…

Tiger works kind of ok – despite my networking woes. I’ve taken the plunge on one of my own machines now. (Other thread).
I’m particullary happy after disabling spotlight.

If you have a DAT player and a G5 with spdif optical I guess you’re in luck.

Just connect the two (You might need a 50$ cable to lightpipe converter or a 10$ lightpipe cable).

In “Audio Midi setup” you configure the computer to accept sound through the lightpipe and external sync.

Do not try to make the connectio bi-directional! The G5 isn’t very good at that… -;(

This way you’ll get a clone of what’s on the tape to disk. Or so they say at least…

If you have QT 7 pro, I think you should be able to record the sound directly into QT. If you’re on FCP 4.x you can record into Peak.

Sometimes renewing the DHCP button does the trick (while at first I couldn’t get anything done.)
