  • Problems getting D.A.T audion into my G5, please help!!!

Posted by Dave Sullivan on October 14, 2005 at 12:49 am

    Hello All,

I’ve just tried to copy some audio I recorded on Monday onto my G5, and I’m having problems!!!!
I realised after trying to get the audio from my D.A.T recorder into FCP 4.5 that it’s a no go. At the moment at can only Record 1 mono track in FCP, and thats by using the ‘Voice over tool’….any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance

    Dave

There are several ways to do this.
The simplest is to record the DAT to your camcorder and a DV tape, then capture the DV.
It will then have timecode and that can come in very handy.

There are other methods, depending on the equipment you own and your experience-level.

If you have a DAT player and a G5 with spdif optical I guess you’re in luck.

Just connect the two (You might need a 50$ cable to lightpipe converter or a 10$ lightpipe cable).

In “Audio Midi setup” you configure the computer to accept sound through the lightpipe and external sync.

Do not try to make the connectio bi-directional! The G5 isn’t very good at that… -;(

This way you’ll get a clone of what’s on the tape to disk. Or so they say at least…

If you have QT 7 pro, I think you should be able to record the sound directly into QT. If you’re on FCP 4.x you can record into Peak.

    Hope this helps
