I stil llike the good ole Grass Vallet 100. Componant, all the inputs and MEs ya need. More than enough for what ya wanna do. On a budget. Live switching to a recorder is yer buddy. Record the isos if you need handles on cutaways later on. IN the end, any componant switcher will do just fine.

man, it’s tough to say, lookin’ at a youtube clip. How’s in look in your studio? Is vimeo out of the question as far as online clippage? Were you happy with focus as you were looking at the raw footage?

at the risk of sounding old, back in my day, networks demanded masters on etched in stone formats that ran through QC and got rejected if they missed one spec. Now folks are FTPin’ freakin QTs galore and interns are on the receiving end, “QC”ing as they talk on their dang iphones and update their freakin’ facebook status. Next stop is indeed air. Hence all the hooha we see now from washed out 30rock to the interlaced national spots that pay for it.

Sounds like you are already there. Lock down the wide shot the rove around as needed. If it doesn’t matter if you are in the wide shot when you cut to it, just focus on your handheld shot while shooting. If it does matter, just keep that in mind as you rove around. Same with the audience. In some cases the video is more important than the audience so you ignore all and get the shot. In other cases, you have to be invisible. Communicate with the seminar dude for that feedback. As far as roving, don’t rob yourself of a cutaway by walkin’ while he’s talkin’. Setlle in, frame him up then reposition as he changes chapters so to speak. You’ll be able to feel that.

Certifications are for engineers and a degree means nada to most. Your reel is what will get ya jobs and it sounds like you have that… are or working on it. Polish it up and shop it around. Take what’s offered and move up from there. -
