This post brings many points to light.
With Vegas (or any other NLE) ya pretty much know what yer gonna get. Now that Avid dabbles in what we’ll just call “creative marketing”, man ya just have no idea as ya roll the dice. All I can tell ya is I have a so-called Adrenaline HD and it cannot handle HD at all. Have things changed witht hat? Well yeah they have but the samke marketing practice continues.
I miss Avid. Wouldn’t it be cool if apple scooped em up or vice versa… they snag FCP from apple and run with it.
It comes down to if your clients feel comfy with an Avid house ya have to do it. If they don’t care, brother you can save a lot of money buying a cheaper solution that is more powerful.

  • I’m with you, Bob. I’m way too much of an artist to haggle. I find it offensive when folks offer less than I’m worth.
I’m like “I can do it for 5 grand, man. No?, k later.”
Not the best business practice on the planet… or is it?
Time is money. I’d rather spend the time creating than talking about what is to be created and how cheap it needs to be done while looking the best. lol
This is not unlike asking a high class call girl for suburb street walker prices, imo. Yes, I’m a video whore. But dammit, I’m no 20 dolla ho.

  • I don’t suggest the portal. I’ve heard no horror stories but you’ll obviously be better represented.
I imagine they get a lot of show ideas through the portal.

Have you tried pitching this to networks yourself? With all the legwork already done, it seems quite doable to me.
I created a children’s show about 15 years ago. I managed to get a call back from Nickelodeon with no previous in roads. I considered that victory at the time.

good luck, man. Looks like a great project.

I use sapphire blurs for the blur wipes. Sapphire glow and BCC glow for the glows, and I create custom mask transitions with animatte or in After Effects.
Same applies for shows not on MTV.

I have found the best way to react when a client asks for a page turn is to laugh like you thought they were kidding.

The only two reasons to make that move would be client demand and markatability as a freelancer.
What you discribed with vegas bug fixes that only introduce new ones is exactly how Avid’s products are now that we pay to beta test them.
Sound like just going to Vegas 9 would be the best for your right now.

Yes. Consider it a consideration. It’s not required as attending public events is a release in itself.

    No.
You’ll find asking them to sign a liability/right to use release for your records does wonders for how they view laws.
