a bigger bang for the buck cannot be had than a nice FCP suite.
Because it does what it advertises (bonus) and because it can grow as your needs grow without a do-over, it somply is the wisest decision one can make with almost any work flow.
It sounds like your wanting to be middle man so stability is a great assest. Offering some offlining with a used (and very cheap) Meridien-based Avid may be the perfect way to test the waters. Maintenance is a non-issue. If it became one, just hit ebay and replace the thing, billing it back the very next week. You could then market a nice fcp online suite to accent that offline suite.

Bottom line is it deserves investment, do it. If it’s just another gig, it’s their penny. I charge the same for travel time as I do for anything else. -
Non compete contracts are admissions that the grass is greener elsewhere. There is no reason to sign one of these ever, under any circumstancers, at freakin all. If a company wants to keep you from competing, it’s their job to keep you happy.
It’s bold enough for a company to ask a staffer to sign one of these but to ask a freelancer to disable himslef from freelancing is crazy. If working for a top secret entity, again they can buy some loyalty. Forcing it with a signature is bogus. -
My rate is based on my experience, talent and creativity and is charged by the hour. How many hours I spend of my time is what determines the invoice. I only need to know how the end product is used so I know what kind of master to make. How many see it is not a care of mine.

There is a lot of value in being under one roof to feed one another while maintaining the motivation of being a sole proprietor. Freedoms not only allow that freedom feeling, the lack of what we see as security is quite motivating. Feel like a partner aint pullin his weight and you’ll eith let up to in order to not work more than he or boot him and start over. This is what I have seen, anyway. -

With the adapter, you’d still bring it in digital in your settings as those settings will not know about the adapter.
