You will need to mixdown all of your video before exporting the QT reference. Sounds rediculas but better still. lay it off and recapture it, if using Avid DVDit as your motion effects will still show interlacing if not. This is not Avid DVDit’s bi=ug, it’s Avid’s. The meridien line did not have this issue nor does DS.

if using encore or something of the like, you can get away with just mixdowns… still a drag for storage.

Festivals, like movies or concerts, are cool if you dig em. Is it considered a business mve? Not unless your film is being premiered or promoted. Are they fun? Again, only if you are into em. They can easily feel like another conference if not.

It’s just a matter of gearing your reel towrad what you wanna do. Spot editors will hilight cuts made between elements handed to them, graphics dudes will show bells and whistles and colorists will show before and afters of their magic.
It’s no longer color correction… today it’s more color creation, as every shot we touch is loved on at least a little.

Pull em down. You should have asked first. It’s actually a great opportunity to stroke a client’s ego.
As it is, you have offended them by dimming their limelight or endangered them by uploading private content.
In 20 years of editing, I have never had a client say no to my using their material in my demo. Again, it’s an opportunity to compliment them.

There is no template for this as life itself has no template. Every scene you go to and from has a different vibe, flavor or personality. It’s up to you to tap into that, see it and be able to follow a piece, not lead it. These are the funnest to edit… the ones that create themsleves, taking you along for the ride. You know what I’m talking about. The times when 20 hours pass without your knowing it with a handful time intaces you stood up out of your chair with happiness when an edit is magic. Don’t think you created this edit. You were just the first one to get to witness it.
They key to any art is knowing how little effort to put into it as it creates itself through you. Don’t over think it. Go with your insticts knowing undo is a click away.
