    Hi, Matt.
It’s always good to increase your marketability by knowing as many appas as possible. While more and more jobs are for FCP, there are indeed still a few avid gigs to be had out there, declining as they are. I don’t suggest classes so much as just hopping on and learning at your own pace. You can either intern at a local post house that still boasts Avid suites or today, it’s quite easy just to buy some software and tear into the manual. Your reel )coupled with savvy) is what will get you jobs, not a certifification of any kind. I think you’ll find challeneging yourself in your workflows proves to be a better teacher than sitting through templated classes that may or may not apply to your needs and goals.

That was awesome. Very entertaining. Dunno if it’s the edt of the week but I found the VO and the animation to be able to hold their own against anything on tv or the net.

This is a bug that was introduced after the killing of the meridien line and has yet to be addressed by Avid. The only work around is to open each project and baby media tool from within the project you are wanting to address. Outside of that, deleting from your media folders when ready to clean house is the only way to really spring clean today.
Not always an option. I always have things I want or need to keep online.

Many times a first time speaker begins with something like…
“well, uuuhm, you know, the first time I saw Bob, uhm, you know, I was, well, surprised.”
Fixed in post, this quickly becomes “The first time I saw Bob, I was surprised…” Cutaways hide these edits. 9 times out of ten, this is why you catch it as a split edit. Also, a viewer will always rather see Bob here than some dude babblin’ about Bob. It’s a natural fit to cover with Bob.
There are no rules here. That’s what is great about documentaries. You get to make em up on the fly. In the end, making the best viewable product is the art. That quite often means making a nervous dude comfy in post.

August 28, 2009 at 2:18 pm in reply to: Somewhat OT: Health Issues

For 20 years, with youth and strength, I sat in a dark edit suite pushin’ buttons. Now, pushin’ forty with a bad back, a bum knee and several years of bodily abuse due to being an adrenaline junkie, I find myself all over the world as a roving hand-held vidiot. What I do to ignore pain is ignore it. After 12 hours of shooting, I fake a grin as if my threshold of pain is not an 8 ona scale from one to ten. The last thing I can afford is folks to think I have any sort of handicap doing my job. Last week found me in a boat crash in the gulf of mexico. I bruised a bone in my shooting shoulder and pinched another nerve in my back. As people on the boat compaired battle wounds, I simply documented them and said nothing.
In typical man fasion, when I get home, that’s when I milk sympothy. My wife heals all ailments with love, attention and vast amounts of icey hot. My daughter walks on my back to realign my spine, my boys tell me I kick ass and off I go to do it again.
This method works for me. Miles may vary.
I can tell ya the more ya excersise, the better. Walk a lot, jog if you can. Have as much sex as your wife can stand. Use stairs, not the elevator when not on a shoot. Sit in the sun when chillin’. It simplay aint good for a brother to hang out in a dark suite 60 hours a week every dang week.
