Thanks for the info Dave! Yes, Vegas thinks it’s 60i alright. And I even rendered the final version in that once and it still had some of the same problems. But now that I know about the blur issue as you’ve described I’ll fiddle with the render settings some more and do what I can about it.

Uh, never mind.

We did a test and the editors version of Final Cut Pro works with the footage rendered from the PC without using the Avid codec referenced above just fine.

In fact, it might look better than when we capture footage from the HDV camera onto FCP itself.

I’m a little confused. So if someone wants to take a crack at explaining it that would cool, but we seem to be able to do what we need without installing the avid codec onto the Mac after all.

I’ll just keep moving forward in befuddled happiness for the moment.

We have been moving forward on this but have now run into a snag.

The MAC editor can’t download the codec. There is always an error message saying it will not install.

Has anyone else run into this?

I’ll give it a try. One thing that I notice is that in the picture example above you created, in the FORMAT section it shows the video at 29.97fps.

When I try to create the same template, that changes to “24fps” when I make the frame rate “24.000(Film)”

Here is what my format section looks like:
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM
Video: 24 fps, 1920×1080 Upper field first
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000

Should the video be 29.97fps as in your example? If so, how do I get that to stick and change the frame rate to 24.000?

Also, to get the “Upper Field First” to appear in the Format, I have to have that showing in the “field order” box, but I notice it’s showing “None (progressive scan)” in your example.

Sorry if these are questions with an obvious answers, I’ve never created a template myself and want to make sure it looks as close to the example you’ve given me.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing about them being a little too Mac-centric.

So the Avid codec will work with Vegas just fine?

How do I change my render setting to 24.00? Once I download the Avid codec will that be one of the options?

Hey Gilles,

You are correct. I have a Gateway instead of an HP.

It’s still working as of this morning.

I did have to restart my PC twice for the driver to kick in, but if you go this route hopefully you’ll have a quicker time of it.

Hi Gilles,

Well, I’m not sure if this will work for you or not, but I did manage to find a solution to my issues.

I checked on a few other forums, and saw a post with very similar comments to ours. He used a free Fire Wire driver download from HP.

The site says it works with Vista (which is what I have) but the guy on the other forum was running Windows 7.

Once I downloaded the drivers and restarted my PC twice (not sure why it took that many time) I was able to capture HDV on Vegas Pro 10.

We’ll see how well it works tomorrow, but for today I’m able to get my HD.
