So I was able to get the original hdv tape tonight (previous post).

I’ve never captured HDV before, the process seems to be different than DV. I started the capture utility, selected HDV (second bullet item) and pressed “record” on the window to “start capture”.

I couldn’t see anything being captured, the screen remained blue, but the camera was playing and it appeared to be capturing. I do want my footage to be captured in clips, it didn’t appear to be doing this. I stopped the process and couldn’t find the .m2t file.

What is the correct way of capturing the video from this/an HDV camera?

(PS. previous footage from this camera was captured by someone else into vegas and it resulted in many .m2t files created… just what I want. So I know it can be done)

    Thanks for any help.

You capture HDV footage thru the internal HDV/SDI capture
selection and if you want to capture the footage in segments,
you go into preferences and select Enable HDV Scene Detection.

    You can also try this:

Thanks Steve, I ‘ll try enabling the scene selection as I don’t want to painstakingly split this video (many scenes) if I don’t have to. I’ll try it later this aft and report back.

Should I not be seeing the video in the preview box of the capture app as I’m capturing? It remains blue.

    Here’s an update:

I connected the same camera to my notebook, which runs Vegas 9.0e Pro on XP Pro and I can capture perfectly.

What could be the problem with the desktop Vista-64/Vegas-64 config which prevents me from capturing?

I had a similar issue recently when I upgraded our computer. It turned out that the firewire port on the new motherboard was somehow faulty. The funny thing was that it would occasionally capture the odd frame or two. Anyway, when we put the old firewire card from the old computer into the new computer, that worked fine.

    Thanks Kevin,

was your “faulty” card able to capture DV footage? my current config allows me to capture flawlessly using the DV capture of Vegas. The issues are only seen in the HDV capture.

Hi Gilles. I actually only tried it with HDV.

Thanks for letting me know Kevin.]

It doesn’t sound like the same prob. I can capture DV, I can control the camera via the HDV capture, it just won’t capture.

I also posted on Sony’s forum, so I’m hoping I’ll get a response.

    Thanks anyway.

    Hi Gilles,

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? Because I am having the exact same issue.

I recently bought a Sony HVR-V1U. I run Vegas Pro 10/64 bit version on Window Vista (also 64 bit) I select the HDV/SDI option. The capture program controls the camera just fine, but it will not capture any of the HD video. All I get is a blue screen. I’ve unchecked the “external capture” box in the preferences as suggested in both the manual and on this forum.

I’ve set my camera to the correct settings as per the manual:
Set[VCR HDV/DV] to [HDV] and [i.Link CONV] to [OFF]

And still, the internal capture will not show anything on the preview and will not capture anything. It shows no MB being captured and no dropped frames.

If you have found a solution, please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!
    Later,
    G
