Sweet. Worked like a charm. I created a null object, and linked the “Set 1” x, y, z, values (now in a sub-comp) to the null’s x y and z. For some reason I needed to add *-1 to the y and z expressions *(see below) because it was moving in the opposite direction on the y and z.
This also nicely solves my issue with not being able to drag Envig objects in my comp window. Zax should build something like this into their next iteration.

Agreed. (about noise).
The best thing you can do is make sure your still matches for color, contrast, luminance, gamma, etc. Tweak it with filters (or psd) until it looks perfect sitting up against the footage.You can get a lot of mileage out of subtle animated changes in lighting, like maybe creating a simulated gobo out of fractal noise overlaid with the ‘add’ transfer control with opacity set to next to nothin’. (maybe just 3-8%.) Basically, see if you can mimic some moving shadows. Keep it simple and subtle, though. If the viewer “sees” the changes, you’ll probably lose the effect.
If you’re working with graphics, you can often achieve this without even animating, just by getting your flat colors to have a little variance in character by lightly overlaying a subtle texture or wash.

Speak of audio, have they made any improvements to the (-2166) error when scrubbing audio with the latest version of quicktime (7.0.3 and 7.0.4)? Or is that Quicktime’s (Apple’s) problem?

To my knowledge, the edu version is always exactly the same as the standard version. The only difference is what they’ve ethically asked you to do and not do with the software. (that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if they won’t offer the pro version for edu fees since they figure it’s for…well, pros!)Check online for the breakdown between the pro and standard version. The biggest differences I can think of are keylight, some filters, and motion tracking, maybe wiggler. The standard version has no limitations that keep it from having the same quality. The only difference is the extras.
Just remember, if you ever start to sell your work, you need to pay the regular price for your software. I’m glad you’re buying your software. God will honor your faithfulness. (actually, check the license to make sure that non-profits fall under the edu umbrella. They don’t always.)
[I started learning AE as a designer at my church– who had a “borrowed” copy of AE! I love asking my pastors if they’re asking God to bless the work they’re doing on software they’ve stolen. C’mon pastors. Take a step of faith. God’s got the purse-strings.]

I like it. I think these are the things that jumped out at me most, that I’d finesse more if it were my project:
–Try some softer movements between keyframes (ease) and practice more on making your movements serve the purpose. I feel like I notice them too much.
–Some places where you shifted scenes seemed to have a bit of a dark hole. Maybe you could tighten up some of the transitions.
–The camera movement just after the explosion near the horse is confusing to me. Was it meant to be a camera jiggle from the explosion?
–Your first scene goes well with me until you get an extreme angle on your backgrounds. I think you’ve pushed your movement too far. Some of the coolness is lost for me.
–Your “Civil War” logo is nice enough, but the presentation of it seems like it could use a bit more interest.If I were you, I’d hold on getting it into the hands of the History channel just yet and see what I could do to finesse it more into prime-time.
