January 3, 2014 at 5:33 pm in reply to: Weird mask point issue – can’t select or move single mask points with Ease and Whizz. My short answer is “I don’t know.”, but since it’s epically annoying when people post that (why answer at all, then?!), I’ll at least tell you that your post reminded me of an earlier post I made after I divorced Ease and Wizz and started using Animation Patterns, which is more robust. Note however, that I don’t think you can use Animation Patterns with mask points. Perhaps there’s a limitation in there that both packages ran into.
If you can’t use handy things like that, you can also try to ease the workflow with CMD-SHFT-K, which opens up the Influence dialog (without the labor of getting into the graph editor). If you’re new to that dialog box, try changing the influence of an eased keyframe from 33.3 to 60 or 80 and notice the change. It’s not a fix for your issue, but might ease the suffering if you end up having to do it long-hand.

December 27, 2013 at 7:43 pm in reply to: AE effect to match lighting condition, as well as re-apply to additional layers?I may not have been clear enough, Dave. I’m not working in 3D at all.
I have a product render (done in 3D under white lighting). I have a live-action shot with the product (lacking branding). Now, imagine that I have an illustrator logo, which is also created in white light (by default). I’d like to apply the appropriate color transformations to place this in the live-action shot by sampling the same point on two references (the 3D render, and the live shoot). I’m basically trying to capture the white balance offset and re-apply it to incoming artwork. Surely this is a pretty common workflow for someone in vfx, right?

November 20, 2013 at 5:09 pm in reply to: Problem importing radial gradient to AE from IllustratorI submitted these to Adobe.
For the record here, I’ve also had these anomalies (AI CC 17.0.0):–Copying and pasting a stoked/gradient object into a new AI document may result in the object converting to two objects–an expanded stroke, and a non-stroked object.
–When pasted, it converted some of the gradients to what looks like a blend, with a hundred concentric circles in outline mode.
–And as stated, gradients are turning white in the left-most color when imported to another app (like After Effects).Antifreeze Design

I’ll try that. While you’re there, I’m also having trouble copying and pasting one gradient from AI even to another AI file. Sometimes they work, other times they turn into what looks like a blend, where in outline mode I see a hundred concentric circles making the gradient. Maybe it’s related.

November 20, 2013 at 12:44 am in reply to: Problem importing radial gradient to AE from IllustratorHmmm. Yeah, it must be something in the transfer from AI. It’s not white while I’m in AI. I’ll attach a screenshot.
Maybe I’m making a mistake with the export settings?

September 25, 2013 at 10:50 pm in reply to: How do I render every other frame and have them numbered 0,2,4, etc. Thanks, Dave.
Specifically, I wanted to use the first night’s render as a double-check of the entire sequence. If it looks good, then I’m half way done!Antifreeze Design

Note that our friends at the Cow have just set up a specific forum for Maxon Cineware. Thanks, guys!

What a goofy pain. My solution was to not change any of the (2 automatically created) keyframes in my outer comp (the one applying Time Remap), but to
1. Inside my precomp, add an additional frame to my precomp that matched the first frame of the looping sequence.
2. Apply Time Remap to the outside of my comp, with the expression: loopOut(type = “cycle”, numKeyframes = 0)
3. Extend the duration, now that it can be expanded to infinity.Honestly, I still don’t understand why that would affect the frame that was “blank”, but hey, I’ve got a deadline to meet! I’ll sharpen my axe later!
