Problem importing radial gradient to AE from Illustrator
I’m having issues importing radial gradients from AI. A multiple color gradient (only radial, I think) in Illustrator gets translated to having a white center. Is this a bug problem? Interpretation problem? (note, this is not a “banding” issue. The colors are changing on import).
Anyone else have this problem?

I’m not seeing this problem. If you upload some example Illustrator files that are showing this behavior, I’ll have a look.

When I look at the left colour stop in Illustrator it *is* white.

It’s an Illustrator bug. Illustrator is saving the wrong information in the file. To see this, open the same .ai file in Acrobat. After Effects and Acrobat (and other applications) are reading the same data.
I was able to force Illustrator to save out the correct colors by saving your .ai file as a .eps file from Illustrator.

Hmmm. Yeah, it must be something in the transfer from AI. It’s not white while I’m in AI. I’ll attach a screenshot.
Maybe I’m making a mistake with the export settings?

I’ll try that.While you’re there, I’m also having trouble copying and pasting one gradient from AI even to another AI file. Sometimes they work, other times they turn into what looks like a blend, where in outline mode I see a hundred concentric circles making the gradient. Maybe it’s related.

I submitted these to Adobe.
For the record here, I’ve also had these anomalies (AI CC 17.0.0):–Copying and pasting a stoked/gradient object into a new AI document may result in the object converting to two objects–an expanded stroke, and a non-stroked object.
–When pasted, it converted some of the gradients to what looks like a blend, with a hundred concentric circles in outline mode.
–And as stated, gradients are turning white in the left-most color when imported to another app (like After Effects).Antifreeze Design

A detail that may help you to understand the different behavior:
When Illustrator saves a .ai file, it saves the information in “native” Illustrator format and also saves a converted version of this data in EPS/PDF format, which is what nearly every other application uses. So, your original issue is because the conversion to EPS/PDF is broken in this case.
I just wanted to make that clear so that your bug reports to the Illustrator team could nudge them in the right direction. 😉
