Chris — have you tried Hack TV Carbon? It’s a little app I use all the time for quick grabs. Just feed whatever source into your KONA and run Hack TV, select the image size and hit control-C to copy the image. Then I go into Photoshop and paste it into a new document and save however I need it.

    find it here:

Hack TV Carbon works great with KONA; what’s more, you can feed the KONA live video, run Hack TV Carbon, then just do an apple+C to do a frame grab and paste into PS or whatever you’re using. No need to actually record a clip with Hack TV — just set the monitor size to the size of the clip you want to grab.

MUCH easier than the “digitize a clip in FCP and export a still frame” method I’d been using.

That’s a good tip, although I was looking more for something like I had on my old Digital Voodoo D1 card, where I could hit an F-key and grab a frame from an incoming live D1 signal; or, if I wanted to send an image to the Kona, punch it up on my D1 switcher, and not have to worry about stray cursors or windows on the “second” desktop. The Voodoo had PS Import and Export filters for this.

Granted, this is a lot more useful in an online suite, but that’s where I spend a lot of time.
