I would like to grab still frames from video while controlling a tape in a deck. I wonder if they expect to add this functionality to VTR Xchange? It is a feature of the Blackmagic’s Deck Control software and it is very useful on my other system. I often work with clients who come in looking to grab nice HD stills from their D5 or HDCAM master. Right now my only decent option is to use VTR Xchange to mark an IN on the frame they want and capture a DPX image sequence that is very short in length (20 frames). Then I can open the first DPX and flip it to a TIF if they want. Is there another workflow to grab a still from tape that anyone would recommend with the Kona 3 card?

Chris — have you tried Hack TV Carbon? It’s a little app I use all the time for quick grabs. Just feed whatever source into your KONA and run Hack TV, select the image size and hit control-C to copy the image. Then I go into Photoshop and paste it into a new document and save however I need it.

    find it here:
