Jeff,
I had exact same problem. I bought the new Quad, had 2.5Gig Ram, 7800nvidea, etc. Motion worked fine on the old 1.6G5 but now the same thing you describe .. it opens but can’t use templates, open new window, etc. It’s like a semi-crash.I fixed solution but calling Apple support and she had me download and install ProAppRuntime.pkg. Check to see if you have this under Finder/Library/Receipts/
maybe this will help. mine was fixed after this

I’m having problems with Motion too.
It ran fine on older 1.6 G5. Got the new Quad with 7800 card and 2.5 gigs of RAM.
I did the Firewire transfer to my new machine. Now when I launch Motion, I’ll get the Welcome Screen, and no matter what I click, nothing else happens. It won’t open template or new window, etc. I’ve tried everything (trashing preferences, repair premissions, reinstall). I just finised trashing the entire Final Cut Studio, and reinstalling the entire thing. Same problem.
I don’t have anything else connected to this new Quad. The rest of Final Cut Studio seems to be working.
So i’m hoping someone on here can give me an answer.

We just ordered the Quad here at work. We were working off 1.6 gig G5s and nobody wanted to wait for intel. We still have to wait 3-4 weeks to get it. We figured (and of course it’s a guess) but by the time the same processing power from intel chips actually hits the shelves, at least a year will have gone by. And if we’re spending 2500 bucks for a dual core just to keep us till intel, why not spend the 3500 and have it last probably a few years.
of course if it was my own money i’d wait 🙂

thanks..just changed the order to 7800

So I guess at this point I can ONLY order a G5 with the Nvidia 6600! That kind of sucks I have to wait and can’t order with a card that motion supports.

Since they haven’t shipped yet, how could anyone here really know the answer to your question?
DRW<< Just looking for opinions from people who have far more experience than me in purchasing hardware to work with certain software, etc. No one else in my company deals with any Mac stuff so my resources for figuring out what to buy are limited to internet. I find these boards to have the people with most knowledge on this.
