If you have filters and distortion, you need to render it first in your timeline. Then your QT reference file should export in about 4 minutes.

    Hi Bob,

Just wondering if you do work in the Miami Area or if you know someone who does. Looking for someone who can service and advise on both a corporate in-house on-line editing system, routing, and also a FCP edit suite. Thanks.

LOL. Thanks Mark. That was so well written. Do you have any writing samples I could look at? Please feel free to email me at granball@msn.com.

Just be upfront with them. Find out what it will cost you out of your pocket and let them know that you’ll need to charge them for these items. Charge the mileage, and charge them for duplication costs. Be sure to mark up the duplication costs, so you can make a profit and also be compensated for your time. Don’t be afraid to increase rates. Remember how much food and gasoline cost last year? Everything goes up

I see this as a golden opportunity for you. Why not go to your client with suggestions on how to make these shows look better? Approach it in a positive light. Tell the client that if they were to shoot cutaways and vary their angles or focal lengths, you, as an editor would have more to work with and be able to provide him a better looking show.

Of course be careful that the client’s shooters aren’t family members, good buddies, or the client himself. In that case bite your tongue.

Explain to him that you’re running into challenges with audio, and you’d be happy to even talk to the folks shooting the video for him to help him achieve a better quality end product. What I do is explain how it takes longer to edit poorly planned or shot video, and poor audio. If you’re charging him an hourly rate explain to him that you can edit faster and ultimately cheaper with better quality. If he disagrees with you… you can always move on.

    Good luck

No the audio was not over modulated. I’m still not sure we solved the problem. But due to a tight deadline and the fact that we were outputting to SD, we just down converted to SD and then reimported it into an SD timeline (where the audio works fine). So short-term problem solved…but I’m sure there’s a setting in FCP that will fix our audio problem.

Thanks so much for your help and patience. It’s greatly appreciated.

It’s hooked up via SDI in and out of the junction box into our router and to our Digibeta Deck.
All sd outputs from FCp work fine.

Perfect! Thanks Jeremy. That solved our problem One other question, for some reason the audio is distorted and we don’t know why. Would it have something to do the fact that the show was recorded at 24P and we’re outputting to 30 frames per second? When we export a regular SD program (not down converting it, the audio is clean. Any thoughts?
    Thanks again.
