I suggested working in AE under the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile because Renzo’s final output is imagery from Photoshop. I assumed possible web use but on second thought, Renzo mentions boards, so if printing is involved It would be better in both AE and PS to use the Apple RGB profile (Larger colour Gamut – better for print).

Are you on a Mac or PC?
If you save from AE as a jpeg and view in an image viewer (not PS) how does it look?

I think that in AE with no colour management set you are actually viewing your comp in the colour space that your system and monitor is set to. Perhaps someone could confirm this.

The way I understand it is that since PS has to have a distinct colour profile set and clearly your not working in that particular space within AE something has to change in AE else your output (for web I assume) will never look like your original comp.

I would suggest you change your AE project to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and do a global CC to get your colours back the way they need to be.

I’m not a mac user so I’m not sure how the apple update works for Macbooks however my experience with auto OS updates is that for every issue they fix, occasionally they create a new one.

If you do have some sort of auto OS update running you might want to check what if it updated around the time this PSD/AE problem started. If there is an option to roll back the update, give it a try and fingers crossed things might go back to normal.

What exact codec are we talking about here?

Have you tried using the Adobe update service as this might be a bug which you previously had patched before the re-install.

can you describe the error or problem that you see in AE in more detail?

  • No serious math needed, Just use pickwip to make the camera target follow the tracker point first, then edit the expression with *-1

Nasa imagery might also be an option since a fair amount is un copyrighted and free for commercial use.

Assuming it doesn’t need to be medically accurate:
A desaturated, high contrast mash up of various organic looking images such as steak or pork chops and similar, could be masked and animated around with additional distortion ripple and wave effects (of various sizes). Couple this with a liberal sprinkling of gaussian noise to add grain at various levels in the comp should do the trick!

I can image a fair bit of tweaking needed but I can’t imagine it to be too difficult! (having said that challenges tend to look more inviting on the outside!!)

Love to see some results when you have them!

  • Just an idea but if the lens/pan distortions are important couldn’t you get the camera point of interest to inversly follow the tracked point? This should ensure the camera rotation matches the filmed pan at all times.
I agree with Dave though that for a comp like this a camera is not necessarily the best tool.

November 29, 2010 at 9:32 pm in reply to: Reinstalling After Effects CS4

It will depend on the plugin and how it is installed/authorised.

If you uninstall AE CS4 any third party software files should remain untouched in the folders:

    Adobe/Adobe After Effects CS4/Support Files/Plug-ins

    or

    Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS4\Support Files\(Media Core plug-ins)\Common

You might want to make a copy of the plugin contents of these locations before the AE re-instal (What I like to call a drop folder). Although you wont be able to back up any registry keys that many plugins use for authorization (unless you know how to find them!) you should be able to first of all see what works and what doesn’t in the fresh AE then (making another backup of the same two folder locations first) over write from the drop box to see if that gets any more plugins working. I wouldn’t have too high expectations but it might save you a little time at least!

I find drop folders a great time saver and use them for plugins in many apps and even for my own scripts, support files and UI settings.
